For all of you APPLE users out there :-)

I read a few times that audio recording experts recommend to use FireWire PCI cards for recording audio on Macintosh computers, instead of built in FireWire ports. Regardless is it G4 or G5 CPU. They were stating that built in ports have to go through way more circuitry then PCI cards, so PCI cards should communicate why quicker due to PCI slots position in communication chain.
Can anybody give us an educated answer?
