glitches via firewire (alesis fireport)

hello room
i am just rehearsding my firewire m audio card 1814, i am recording with a toshiba centrino 1.6 notebook and NUENDO. it has a 5400 rpm hd inside. trouble is.
when i use internal drive (5400) as folder destination everything is fine, i record with no glitch at all
when i use a external 7200 hd via firewire my recordings are full of glitches I use alesis fireport as firewire interface it is a VP power tool i dont think it could be a problem
please help
none gltch on same hd in repro (with audio materials previously recorded

Hello Outsider,
I will give you my advise, though I am not Toshiba or PC user and don't have the same gear. I have 7 years of techsupport in music industry experience, so you can take it for what it is :-)
If you have a few components in chain and one of them works fine by itself (your Toshiba with internal drive), while not using Firewire - it most likely is a Firewire card or interface that you use is causing trouble. The only other thing I would've check, considering you have glitches, it is buffer settings. If you can record on the same drive using anybody else's interface try it! I don't think it is your external drive, at least I would not blame it first. Thats's all I can give :-)

I don't know if you know that Alesis uses their own proprietery OS. It's not wav, aiif, etc. It's their own. You have to use their FW converter to convert to a standard wav
