Hey,

I work with Cubase SX and just purchased Pro Tools M-Powered and Reason 3.0. I recently heard of mixing with control surfaces and am really interested in it. I'm looking for a control Surface that I can use in all my softwares esp. Cubase SX and Pro Tools. I talked to a pro tools rep. and was told that HUI is a system that works with Pro-tools. If anyone knows anything about this stuff please reply, I'll greatly appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

I've got a Mackie Universal...I use it with SONAR 4. I'm very happy with it.

The idea is attractive, but the reality is quite different. I have a Mackie Control. It works just fine. But it does not feel nor react like an analog console. In fact, I seldom use the fader pack, and I am considering replacing it with the Fronteer Design Group's Tranzport, because mostly I need edting and autolocation.

But the software that I use pretty much doesn't require external mixers. Your milage may vary.

Is the Mackie Universal also known as the MCU (Mackie Control Universal0? If so, what are the primary differences between the MCU and the HUI Universal. I want to use them with Cubase SX, Pro Tools M-Powered and Reason 3.0. I know the MCU is expandable but the HUI isn't. Thanks a lot!

The HUI Universal is actually called the HUI, since it's not universal - it's for Pro Tools. The HUI also has no master fader.

We use HUI with Nuendo, it's marginal at best. There's a lot of times I have to go to the mouse for things. The one factor to consider about staying away from the HUI is, its not expandable, even though there's an expanion port (Mackie bailed-out early on that one)!

True, several DAW apps support it, but it was designed with ONLY Pro Tools in mind. I'd recommend the Control Universal.
