I hope this is the right forum to ask this question, if not, please guide me to the right one. Anyways, here goes...

I want to know how I can have audio effects run in real time in cubase SX 2.x. For example, I want to put a reverb effect on and then be able to speak into the microphone while hearing the reverb thru the speakers in real time.

I don't even know if this is logically possible. Right now I can only apply audio effects to a recorded audio track.

If there's a way to have effects running in real-time, please tell me how.

If not, please explain how the effects work and why having them run realtime is not possible.

Thanks a lot.

Apply the effect to the track you are recording to and the effect will we heard but not recorded. Also if you are routing the recorded track to a nother output in Cubase you could apply the effect there also.

Hope that helps

Hey, thanks for the reply

The thing is I dont know how to apply an audio effect to a track, can you give me a quick step-by-step?

My problem is that the Audio -> Plug-Ins menu is all faded grey (unselectable) unless I select a recorded part, how do I apply an effect to an audio track before recording anything?

Thanks

Your totally in the wrong spot in the program.
Do a F3 and the mixer comes up, then find the track you are recording to. Hit the "e" on the track, in the mixer, then the track itself comes up. At this point you can select a effect from the insert (i1 though i8).

Hey,

The way Cubase has its tracks set up are kinda different than the traditional. On my Cubase SX vs. 1, the tracks are kinda like an aux, cause an effect is never recorded on to the track wet - you can always remove the effects after you've recorded. And well its not like an aux cause you can record onto it.

When you have a signal on a track and can monitor it, by activating the monitor button and being able to hear the signal, you should be able to hear the effect live, as you record or are in stand-by mode. Hope this helps
