Hey gang, can anyone recommend a good book that gives a good overview when it comes to disc authoring with the different software? I understand just enough to be dangerous, and really feel I need to learn more. Then, I may decide to move above the Bronze that I'm using now. I'm all ears...........

What sort of Authoring are we talking about? I am guessing we are in DVD-A land, possibly even DVD-A/V. Bad news is that there is little, if anything available. Those of us in the game all tend to talk to each other - there are not very many doing the full spec authoring, and it is mainly this that causes problems due to the official printed manuals being written by Japanese Engineers for Japanese Engineers.
How far do you want to go? If you need to ensure full compatibility with all DVD players, then you need an application that can import a Video_TS. Then, you need to think about whether or not you need to be able to access said Video_TS content from the menu system of the DVD-A - in short, do you want to give your customers the option to also play the lossy streams, or the lower resolution streams? Do you want to be able to include Video content? If the answer to any of these questions is "Yes", then things are about to get expensive, as AFAIK only Minnetonka's CHROME and Sonic's DAC can do this. Plus you'll need an MLP Lossless encoder, or else space will rapidly become a major issue for you.
If the answer is "no", and you only need to include a compatibility Video_TS, then Steinberg's WaveLab 5 or 6 will do the job, but this has no MLP support & very limited menu options.
If you can be a bit more specific about what you want to do?

I guess I'm talking the full blown package. Maybe. That's the problem, I WISH there was an indepth book available to give an overview to those of us not really comfortable in this area. I'm glad you're busy and have worked with it so much. I'll be tapping you, once I know enough about it to be able to come up with questions!

Joe. Here's the bad news. There isn't one. Period. The printed Manuals for DAC are vague to the point of obscure in some places, and simply missing altogether in others. They were written by Japanese engineers for Japanese engineers, and things have been left out. For example, there is absolutely nothing at all about backwards compatibility with imported Video_TS, apart from a couple of paragraphs on how to achieve import - nothing about what you can & cannot do, and how to manage it. We had to work out what we could not tap others for information-wise. Many hours spent writing DVD-RW discs that didn't work correctly, and plenty of scribbling in the notebook. Likewise most other functions. The manual is great at telling you what functions are in the programme, but nothing at all about usage & serious examples. There is a so-called "Advanced Tutorial" for things like Linked Lyrics, but it's not as comprehensive as it could be. It's the only full-featured DVD-A application that exists.
Chrome. The manual is okay as far as it goes, but it mentions nothing about linking into Video_TS again, and is again lacking. Odd way of importing files makes it very difficult for anything remotely interesting in terms of authoring. No way to program GPRM or VM commands limits usefulness.
WaveLab Never could be bothered to figure this one out. It uses a very odd way of working, where you need to create an Audio Montage for every group. This can be wasteful. Zero support for MLP Lossless and linking into Video_TS folders makes this little more than a Noddy Toy for DVD-A.
Will be happy to assist though - we run both CHROME & DAC.
