This has been substantially edited, sad to say. Originally I was under the (erroneous) impression it was possible to use the 24/88.2 mode in a 5.1 DTS-CD. It is not. What you can do is write a stereo CD at 24/88.2 - just not a surround one.

Bummer Neil! What about the other software that you mentioned and I'm talking to Fiona about? Have you had a full chance to take it out on the dance floor for a spin yet?

Blas.
Re the DTS-CD, it's actually not that bad - the mistake was mine, although it was heavily inferred on the website that 24/88.2 would work on CD, but logic should have told me this was too good to be true, space wise. It will work at 24/88.2 in stereo on a DTS encoded CD though.
As far as the rest of the encoder goes, the ability to author the DTS streams at 24/96 for DVD-Video is worth it on it's own. These days, anything tthat will give me an edge is a good thing to have IMHO.
Re the other package, there is another update to 1.12 due any time now. It looks great VFM to me - okay, there is no full menu system available, but considering the cost of $35, and also considering what it will do - there is no way at all it can be a bad thing. I know a couple of others who have been using it with great success - I was recently sent a Quad transfer at 4.0 24/96 authored in this app, and it might look primitive - just the single screen display, with editable text for track names etc, but the quality is still pristine, full resolution PCM and that is great.
I actually have a full album to get done that I am going to try & do in the app - the client simply wants high quality but does not have the budget for a full Authoring job, so it seems to me that DVD-Audio Solo will be just the job.

Neil -
Are you using DTS as sound for an accompanying video? If audio resolution is what you're after, why not use MLP?

If I author titles as universals, I get the thing to work & play in all DVD players, not just DVD-A players. To that end, it makes sense for me to use both MLP & DTS at 24/96, plus Dolby Digital at 24/48 Then everyone is happy.
