Hello guys!

Well I have a Sony STR-740P Surround System ( Front Picture and Back Pictures and it's connect to a Sound Blaster Augidy 2. I've connected the sound card to the surrond trought the Digital Out jack into the Coaxial plug.
Now my problem that when I try to test the surround sound only the Front Left and Right speaker function the others are like mute! Is there any configuration that I have to do or it will never work? Can anyone help?
Thanks for your help!

By "test the surround" do you mean that you are playing a Dolby Digital or DTS disc (or file) from your computer to the Sony? If so, most computer soundcards have a choice in a menu somewhere that allows you to set it to "non-audio" or something equivalent, which will allow the card to pass an encoded bitstream.

If you are trying to send multichannel sound from a DAW program, like SONAR or Cubase, you are out of luck unless your computer audio interface has Dolby Digital Live - nothing else right now allows you to encode multichannel audio in real-time.

First of all, thank you very much for your reply! I'm trying to use a test that the audio card's software uses to test each speaker (makes a noise in each speaker at a time) and that way I can tell if all the speakers are conected the right way, but this "noise" only comes out the front right and left speakers. The sound card has a jack-out for each of the speakers and subwoofer and I try to connect using the "Digital Out" jack! Another thing, when I change the sample rate from 48kHz to 96kHz on the computer, it changes the speaker configurantion on the Sony display from LEFT+RIGHT+SUBWOOFER to LEFT+RIGHT! Sorry but I don't know how to explain it to you!

This is the test screen:

This is my sound card's jacks:

My guess was right (this wasn't hard).

Your card can not encode 5.1 live. SPDIF can only carry two channels unless the 5.1 sound is encoded as Dolby Digital, with technology called Dolby Digital Live (DTS has announced equivalent technology). Your card does not have htis.

You can connect your soundcard's outputs directly to speakers (from the Line Outs) or to Line Inputs on your receiver, if it has them.

I have asimilar card (Aureon Sky 7.1). I have both the SPDIF and 6-channel analog lines hooked up. When I am working a mix, I have to use the analog outs. Then, I export the 6 wave files and encode tham. The encoded file can be played back through the SPDIF out... Just like Doug said.

If youa re just playing back an encoded source, like a DVD, you may have to play with the configuration of both the software player and the reciever's decoder settings. I little trial and error, and you should be OK. I had to upgrade my version of PowerDVD to be able to play DTS.

Hope you get your surround setup properly configured.

I have no idea how well this might work, but here is the first soundcard with Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect - the two technologies that let you stream (lossy-compressed) 5.1 audio through an SPDIF connection to a surround decoder:

Auzentech Challenges Creative Labs With the Release HDA XPLOSION 7.1 DTS Connect

Quote:
World First Dolby Digital Live Certificated & DTS Connect PCI Type Sound Card
SAN JOSE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/14/2006 -- Auzentech, Inc.(www.auzentech.com) announces today the immediate release of HDA X-PLOSION 7.1 DTS Connect, the world first Dolby Digital Live (DDL) certificated & DTS Connect PCI type sound card.

The X-PLOSION 7.1 DTS Connect sound card provides 5.1 channels Dolby Digital surround sound via only one optical or coaxial connection to a home theater system including external Dolby Digital decoder or AV receiver. The new DTS Connect feature will provide two audio benefits to the consumer: DTS Interactive and Neo:PC, for both multi-channel and stereo content. Taking full advantage of the maximum data throughput of the digital interface, DTS Interactive provides a single cable connection via S/PDIF digital audio output to a DTS-enabled surround sound system by encoding all audio into a DTS-compatible bitstream at 1.5Mbps. Neo:PC, based upon DTS' Neo:6 matrix surround technology, transforms any stereo content such as MP3, WMA or CD audio, into a 7.1-channel surround sound experience. It can make movies, music and games come alive in exciting, dynamic, multi-channel DTS Digital Surround®, the same sound format found in movie theaters.

Can't you stream DTS and AC3 through an SP-DIF output set to Non Audio (IE, data)?

Certain there is an option to do this off the RME cards.
Might be wrong.....

Yes, if it is already an encoded AC-3 or DTS file (on your hard drive or on a disk).

These technologies found on this card encode audio live, and stream this encoded audio throught SPDIF no need to bounce or render or author.

You will still have to switch your soundcard's digital output to "non-audio".

These technologies are useful if you want to see how the encoded mix will sound in real-time, and if you want to use a speaker system connected to a home theater receiver or processor.
