I don't mean for this to go too crazy, but I am wondering what people have to say about these speakers for surround sound mixing.
Overall I have heard that Mackies are more accurate, yet a bit misleading with bass frequencies.

I have been using 5 Mackie HR824s and a custom 2-12" subwoofer/amp setup since 2000. Speaker placement and room acoustics played the major role in getting a workable monitoring system. I have no major complaints in light of the money spent. My DVD Video Dolby Digital 5.1 and 24/48 DVD-Audio surround mixes seem to translate well to typical home systems. Craig

Here's the deal... the Mackies actually HAVE bass, while a lot of the other choices do not. Is it the best, tightest bass that you ever heard? No. (passive rear-firing radiators are never "tight")But it is there, it is clean and okay. I found them to be a massive step up from the typical home studio monitors that were being offered in the mid-1990s. I know that the 'model' used for the product was the Genelec 1031A, and when they were released, many people with no axes to grid said that Mackie had exceeded the sound quality of the model.
If you are following the spec of five full range speakers and a sub, this is not a bad way to go on a budget. I've moved onwards and upwards, as will you. But everyone has to start somewhere, and this is a better start than most will make. I see a lot of Makie bashing going on, but within the price range of their various products, I have found them to be a good value.
I've never seen anyone complain about the Blue Sky speakers. I've never heard them, so I can't say one way or another. Doesn't Phil have a Blue Sky setup? Check with him. One of the Blue Sky guys hangs out around here, I'm sure that he can give you a fair amount of info on their available systems.

Hello Ross
I am probably a little biased to answer your question directly, but feel free to e-mail me if you have any technical questions or if you are looking for dealer in your area.

I listened to six sets of monitors at Guitar Center a couple of days ago. Spent about an hour in the sound room with all kinds of different music. Now...notwithstanding that this was a GC sound room and not a fully treated room, the jbl6328's absolutely blew away everything there...the Mackies/Event Precision 8's/Dynaudio/krk etc in every conceivable way. The Blue Skys were of course not there.
The 6328s were not just marginally better...it was massive...in clarity, flatness (to my ears on material I know very well)..and every other which way.
I finally had the sales guy NOT switch to the jbls so I could get a better perspective between the other pairs...but when I had him finally go back to the 6328's, there was just no contest. The others, especially the Mackie hr824's and Event Precision 8's were just sorta...ugh when compared in perspective. For surround, I'd expect the same results.
There was no shortage of bass on the 6328s and I can only guess what happens when you couple them with their optional sub.
