Hello all. Let me get right to the point. I recently bought a pair of used Kenwood 3 Way JL-850W Home Audio Speakers from a local flee market. When I brought them home, I opened up the box to see if they were authentic Kenwood speakers; yes they were. The only catch is, the last owner rewired inside; bypassing the compasitors. So low and behold Im getting full sound from the tweeters. Can anyone out there help me rewire these bad boys the correct way? Heres some info on the wire system:

From the connecter there are FIVE wires coming out in this order - red/yellow/blue/2x black. Also on the connector there are some compacitors - 2 white square things and a blue battery looking type thing in between.

Can anyone help in any way shape or form? I've done a google search on the model and it falls short. They are a Kenwood JL-850W 3 Way Speaker System (meaning One 15inch and Two tweeters).

DJ... Welcome to the forums! I guess you aren't getting any response, because this is the surround forum. I tprobably would have been better placed on Craig Anderton's *Sound, Studio & Stage* forum. Any way...

There are some technical things to consider, here. The first is to determine the original crossover frequencies. This site claims to be able to sell you a manual. I don't know if it will give you the crossover specs. (http://www.vintageaudiomanuals.com/-K-.htm)

the next thing is to know a bit about passive Resistive(Coils)/Capacitive crossovers. Then, you could use this chart to figure out what values you would need for the proper capacitor and/or coil.

Copy and paste this chart into notepad, where it will be more readable...

My guess is that the crossover was a 12dB/Octave one. If the board is intact, there would be three coils and 3 capacitors on it. If the original capacitors are there and readable, you might be able to reverse the values for the coils.

If you are into basic electronics and soldering, see how far you can go with this info. If you have further questions, drop me an email. We can finish this off the surround forum.

Good luck!

OK, copy this stuff (assuming an 8 ohm speaker setup), and paste into a notepad document. Then, save it as a CSV file and open it with your spreadsheet program. If you don't have one, check out http://www.OpenOffice.org.

If there's just the 2 capacitors, here's a rule-of-thumb guess:

Put the tweeter in series with the smallest capacitor.
Put the mid-range speaker in series with the biggest capacitor.
Leave the woofer as is.

Might not help... but it won't hurt anything.
