Hi,

I'm going to be releasing a dvd-audio that is replicated (dvd-r) and am wondering about the use of the dvd-audio logo. From what I can find the dvd-audio disc (information) must be verified by a licensed dvd manufacture?

http://www.dvdfllc.co.jp/lic2005.htm

DVD Forum DVD-Audio
http://www.dvdforum.com/gen-dvdaudio.htm
http://www.dvdforum.com/format-format.htm

Most of the dvd-r replicators don't seem to have this license? Am I missing something here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You cannot use the DVD-Audio logo or the DVD-Video logo on written discs.
They can only be used on pressed discs or you are in breach of the rules on the DVD FLLC.
This is because use of the logo means that the disc has been correctly verified by the replication facility as a properly authored spec compliant disc.

A DVD-R "replicator" (sic) would not be able to use these logos either. This is because replication is not for written discs - that is duplication.

Couldn't one simply print "dvd-a" or "dvd-audio format" etc on the label and just not use the logo or deal with the associated hassles of getting approval? Especially if YOU know the thing works ok in players.

As long as you don't use the actual logo, and make it plain that the disc is a DVD-R to boot, you can put whatever you like.

Right on brother Niel, best idea is create your own DVD logo and slap it on everything that's your DVD output! The DVD-R can get to be in very, very fine print and away you go. That way you'll; cover your ass, sell many copies, get real big and maybe take over a country, all with sound waves!!
