I'm doing consultation for some people
in this industry. I've been involved
in artist management. That said I'm
deeply familiar with managers compensation
in regard to recording artists. Where
can I get info. for those same forms
of compensation when representing
producer/engineers. I've looked in
most of the major entertainment law
books, and have not found much relating
to these things specifically. Are
the managers percentages, and the like
the same as if representing an artist. Con-
trary to most business dealings in our
industry I most definately
want to do what's fair to myself
,and any producer/engineers I might
represent. I understand that you
have started a producer,& or engineers
guild. Does your guild have, any
standardized contracts that can be
used as a starting guideline for
terms of compensation in this area.

The Music Producers Guild never really got into recomending a standardized contract...it's just not The American Way. Producer managers typically get 15% of your fee and of any royalties.....of course if you are really hot it could be negotiated down to 10% or less.
And to Julien, yeah there are sharks, but good representation has helped many engineers, mixers and producers. When you are busy working, you need someone to field your calls, keep your name out there, negotiate your deals, see that you get paid (and not be taken advantage of), act as a production coordinator, etc. Sure, there are unscrupulous folks everywhere, but the right manager can help you mucho.
