BY POPULAR DEMAND!!!

ProTools vs. Cubase
Mac vs. PC
Digital Performer vs. Logic Audio
Analog vs. Digital (a 1990s favorite)
Drummers vs. Drum Machines (digginí back to the 80s for that one)
You name it!

Rant and slug it out here! But keep it clean! No hitting below the belt or Iíll be forced to call the fight...

Drummers over drum machines...

Except...

For demo purposes, to put down a rough draft. But, to piss off some drummers and set the record straight...a lot of drummers (not any of the fine percussionists that frequent this board, I'm sure), but a lot have guaranteed the success of robot drummers by lacking what I'll call a "session mentality"...in other words, unless it's as busy as Neil Peart and going full tilt like Bonzo, they're not interested. They want high energy, which is fine for a lot of the time...but what about the guys who play with, say, James Taylor...or Paul Simon, or any of the scads of technique and rudiment-oriented percussion professionals who can go from full tilt to laid back without losing interest? Until more drummers acquire that mindset, a lot of their gigs will go to robot boxes. But not in my camp, except for rough demos.

Good God could this be a Pandora's Box.

Less Filling vs. Tastes Great

Both I say.
In All seriousness- I prefer Old School Analog Sounds eventhough I have become a ProTools Addict.

Hey Soap- hows the LA to NY move thing Going?

Best

Oy vey, here we go.

Cubase on a mac. Just because that's what I run.
DP
Digital, because that's what I can afford.
Drummers, diced and sliced and turned into loops. Let them solo and fill all they want, if I get a couple of clean measures, watch out.
Chimmay v. Orval? Chimmay.
Mushrooms v. pepperoni? Rather have 'shrooms on my pizza.
Stocks v. bonds? Cash.

The problem with this exercise is they're all good. The key is to match the product with the application. For example, Pro Tools can't do what Acid does, and Acid can't do what Pro Tools does. So which one's better? Depends on what type of music you do.

Mac vs. PC? Depends on which programs you run, and what you do with your computer. They both work, they both have problems.

Craig, you are far too reasonable for this silly thread. On the other hand, you are sorely needed at:

My preferences, in no particular order -

- brunette over blonde
- fun over snooty
- nice skin over makeup
- dress over skirt
- straight hair over curls
- cool over high maintenance
- voluptuous over waifish
- natural over silicon
- pleasant over bitchy
- flirtatious over prissy
- brainy over airhead
- educated over working class
- hot and bothered over cold and clammy
- relationship over one night stand

Other important prefs -
- fish over meat
- wine over cocktails
- micro brews over mass production
- Clif Bars over Power Bars
- frozen yogurt over ice cream
- no dressing on salad
- no onions on anything
- non-smoking section when available

Music technology? We live in an analog world - sort of. If you work your way down far enough, everything becomes discrete (photons for instance). But I've never spent much time getting to know a photon, so analog is okay with me. Digital isn't perfect, but I can get a better sound on a budget with digital gear. NOTHING can beat the sound of a real analog synth, even the 18-year-old Prophet 600 that's collecting dust in my garage. I'm also an avid fan of digital photography and (analog) color ink jet printers.

- TC over Lexicon
- AW4416 over VS2480
- CD over vinyl
- Mac over PC
- Logic over everybody else
- Anybody over Gibson
- solid state over tube (except for guitar and bass amps)
- bolt-on basses over neck-thru
- five-string over four (or six)
- Jazz vs. Precision (push, they're both great)
- Les Paul over Strat (lead)
- Strat over Les Paul (rhythm)
- Eden over SWR
- Lakland over Sadowsky
- Moog over Arp
- Triton over K2600 (I like Kurz, too, just not as much)
- Jimi over Eric
- Beatles over Stones
- Who over Zep
- Kennedy over Nixon
- Watergate over Iran-Contra
- football over baseball
- summer Olympics over winter
- Ali over Tyson
- Jordan over Chamberlain
- Bobby Jones over Tiger Woods
- Honda over Toyota
- warm weather over cold
- Paris over Disneyworld
- United over American
- window over aisle
- DVD over VHS
- movies over TV
- U.S. News over Time and Newsweek
- Playboy over Hustler
- Argentine tango over American
- salsa over electric slide
- big cities over small towns
- substance over bullshit
- peace over war
- charity over greed
- green over pollution
- respect over confrontation
- appreciation over arrogance
- acceptance over anger
- brotherhood over bigotry
- dedication over pride

And among a cadre of awesome moderators, Craig is just too damned cool!!
