Nope, not a new mic or guitar... an air cleaner. I've been watching the infomercials on TV for the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze, but at $350, it seemed a bit expensive. Well, I went to Rat Shack yesterday for a new cell phone, and saw that they have a similar product called the Envionizer. http://www.radioshack.com/Content/Environizer.asp?hm=sub3 The price? $200. So I thought, what the heck and bought one. I've got it in the control room as I type this, and despite having a built in fan (unlike the Shper Image product) it's very quiet. I'll report more as I use it for a while. Just thought some of you might be interested.

I use a Hamilton-Beach "True-Air". 25 bucks at Osco, it uses a replaceable carbon filter. Works great. Keep us posted on your new toy! :)

Dude, for your $200 you could have bought one of these... Any household product that increases my ass-sitting time, is a necessity!!! :bor:

The Ionic Breeze units really work, have no filter (The charged plates attract the dust, then you wipe them with a wet towel.) and are silent. What more could you want... Ok, I'd love a whole house version. ;) We bought 3 on eBay for $200, I think. One by one they've failed. We brought them to a Sharper Image store and for $100 they upgraded our old (and I mean old) ones to the Quadra. Brand new, in the box. We have one more to replace. All in all they were a great investment. Don't know if I could afford to buy them new at $350 a pop.

It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman

Neil, these appear to be very similar to the Sharper Image models, don't use filters (same basic type of negative charged collector plates), you clean them the same way, etc. etc. And they have a fairly long warranty - 5 years. The only difference I can really see is that there's a small fan to help facilitate air circulation through the unit, which the Sharper Image product doesn't have. Again, after a week or so, I'll let you know how it works and if it reduces the dust. No one smokes in my studio, so that's a non-issue. :D
