Got a chance to listen this morning. Very different and very cool!
What's funny about this statement is that this is how I heard it, in my mind, when I tracked my parts back in January.

Haven't down'd them yet. Still working on the buzz from the wine at the Chilean restaurant we went to...today's my third anniversary, so I'm not much for a working mood. Y'know?

I'll probably get to them tomorrow or Friday.

Downloaded the .shn files. Haven't opened them yet, but if you need the server space, go for it. If you're concerned about preserving them somewhere, and don't want to burn a CD, .mac just bumped my shit up to 1G, so I'd say I have some room on there.
Let me know.

checking in: I was pretty tied up last week, so I didn't get to track anything. Will see what I can do tonight - I have a report due in the morning, so if i can get it pulled together today I should have some time.

The weekend was pretty hairy for me but I got another acoustic track done yesterday. I haven't had a chance to mix & listen and see if I like it enough to send it. I'll try to get something accomplished tonight.

No problem. I'm bedridden today, so unless I double my Darvocet dosage, I won't be getting up anytime soon. 'Course, I probably wouldn't be able to mix too accurately with a double Darvocet...

offramp - been trying a few things, I think that complimentary may be the best thing. I don't know that I can do what you're doing any better - sounds pretty fine to me, and my playing doesn't seem to replicate it adequately. I do have some ideas for playing fills & stuff, though - let me hammer on it for a bit & I'll send you some things you can pick & choose from.

cool. I won't be getting to the track until the weekend, anyway, as my sciatic nerve is still touchy and I can't sit in a chair for too long. At the rate of healing, I suspect it'll be Saturday before I can even think about chair time.

Hey folks:

I'm back...just checking in. Offramp, Happy Anniversary, and hope you're feeling better soon. (And I hope the anniversary celebration and the sciatic nerve problem weren't related! ;\) )

Happy accident.

Dave Sisk, in a short bit, I'll be sending you a link to a mix I did. This one includes your bass solo.

Now, I've been working on this mix without this sort of 'effluence' until now. Wanted to get the essentials in, first. Decided, tonight, that I'm gonna stick your solo in their and see what happens, as up until this point, I'd been thinking about the break as a multiple drums/tom beat kinda thing.

SO...I drop your solo in.
For some reason, my mix suddenly got an echo. Everything came from the right, echo'd on the left.
Huh.
So, before I shut down DP and restarted it, I copied your solo to the clipboard. Bear in mind that, at this time, I had cut away all the dead space at both ends...thereby inadvertantly removing all my alignment options. Damn.
I restart DP, make a new channel, drop in your solo, guided only by the waveforms.
Whoops, a tad early, by maybe four bars. No biggie. Look at the waveform, try again.
THIS time, I got it what would seem to be on the offbeat; your "1" is not my "1", somewhere along the way. HOWEVER...it sounds really #*&^$% cool.

So, I'm sending you a stereo WAV file of the mix for your "groove approval" ("agrooval"?)

Expect it momentarily. Let me know what you think.

Offramp...I like it! Are you sure that's the track I sent you though? You must've done considerable editing to it? That doesn't matter however...this whole interpretation of the song sounds great to me.

That's the track you sent. Stereo WAV file. No editing, save for a quick fade at the end to blend it back in to the bass track, and a slight bump in fader level about 2/3 of the way through because the notes kind of get lost. I did note that the file's name had the word "old" in it, so if you did something different after that, you overlooked including it in the batch.

Other things...

I know that the drums and bass push/pull against each other a bit. I found the original demo the other day, and it strikes me I recorded drums to an older bass track, which would explain the discrepancy. Now, I could do some more splicing on the bass track to get it to line up better; the caveat, there, is that what groove we have going might be lost. I'll ask, then, that you guys offer your opinion on whether that'd be worth it or not, and will likely defer to your judgement on that.

Fil's vocals, while great, have this interesting dominant section of frequency to them that is challenging to me, in terms of getting them to sit better in the mix. I am continuing to work on this. I'll find it.

Dave Sisk, if you've got other bass solos in mind, I'd love to hear them. My request is that they not be quite so 'nasally compressed' as the one I've currently got; maybe a little more grit, more growl. Maybe mono? Maybe no chorus?

For proper stereo orientation, you guys should know that nursers' 'angelic voices' pad appears on the left, my pad appears more to the right; hi-hat is oriented to the right, as is my guitar. organ track is based to the left, and pans around the 10:30 to 1:30 range.

Offramp:

Actually, I think the push-pull that's happening creates a nice groove with some rhythmic tension...my opinion is don't change it! Sounds like you did use the original bass solo which was a little different. Again, I like what you've done...I wouldn't change it.

That's good to know. I spent the day at a funeral so mine wasn't so nice. Tomorrow we're having my son's baptism so it's a hairy weekend.

I was actually hoping for some news from Offramp. I sent him a couple of different guitar tracks awhile back but never heard anything.

Bad week for me in terms of working on the tune.

paul, I tried dropping them in, but I'll need to send you a sample mix of it; I want you to hear something, then let's talk about it.
I'll try to get to it tomorrow, after house-hunting.
