Philip OKeefe
Very cool Mats! For those who don't know what you're seeing here, it's a new modular rackmount system for the FMR RNC... more info here: http://www.funklogic.com/vrtsystem.htm And pretty affordable too - around $99 for the rack, around $24 for the faceplates for the RNP and RNC, and about $2 each for the screws. Considering the classy look and portability improvement, I'd say that's a cool deal!

Mats Olsson.
Wouldn't it be great if they had a PSU that could fit in there to feed up to 4 RNC's/RNP's? Dylan
Very cool! Do they sell the full blown deal with the FMR units included? How much would that set you back?
20to20
I just want a faceplate that will allow both an RNC & an RNP to be racked together, like their plate for 2 RNCs... And I see on their site that they are working on an "NCC-1701" style one [for an RNC+RNP] for release in the Spring...! Philip OKeefe
Originally posted by Mats_Olsson: I want my RNQ! /Mats
Indeed! Then you have a little mini API type lunchbox setup with Pre, EQ and Comp. I've DEFINITELY been looking forward to the RNQ - at the rate FMR develops things, it should be ready by late 2006. :D But at least their stuff is worth the wait. :)
Curve Dominant
My FMR RNC sounds good whilst tracking vocals, but it distorts badly when I play guitar or bass through it. The Alesis NanoCompressor actually sounds much better for guitar than the RNC. Anyone else notice distortion with the RNC? Frost
Hey curve, the rnc site has a little blurb about distortion on low frequencies stating that this is inevitable on a compressor wwith attack times as fast as the rnc is capable of. I have never tried mine on bass but love it on guitars. its actually my standard compressor for my electric guitar buss. Try slowing the attack and maybe cutting some low bass from the guitar tracks. chessparov
Curve, I've read that the Symetrix 501 compressor is superior for your application. Be aware that the "toggle switch" 501's have an even better VCA unit compressor (Valley People) for this per old RAP posts. Chris
offramp
I've determined that about the 501, as well. I couldn't get mine to sound very workable on VO, so I moved it to my bass chain. MUCH better. I've upped my standards; now, up yours.
It's actually more typically a result of fast release times. What happens is the level detection circuit is trying to track the low frequency part of the signal as though it's a varying RMS value. Slowing your release times, maybe the attack a bit as well, and /or putting a hi pass filter in front of the compressor should help. Another trick, if you want to reatin your fast attack & release times, is, if the comp has a key input is to split the signal, run one side of the split through the compresssor normally, & feed the other side through a Hi pass filter & then into the sidechain or key input. jeffbayson
Right now I have my RNC sitting on top of an RNP, with a paperback copy of Slaughterhouse-Five in between. Its not a bad setup. You can buy your own paperback copy of Slaughterhouse-Five here.
area51recording
Curve, I don't always use the RNC for bass but when I do if I encounter distortion I sometimes switch to Supernice mode. Seems to help. Bob Green Area 51 Recording Studio

(not AGAIN!)
Are you kidding? Not? Ok, I'll try to elaborate: 1773VRT Module for RNC (aka. vertical mount module for FMR Really Nice Compressor) ie. take a RNC, pull knobs off, fasten the RNC behind the 1773VRT, put knobs back, fasten the 1773VRT in the VRT-OC cabinet with 2 VRT-BP's. Same goes for the 8380VRT Module for RNP (aka. vertical mount for FMR Really Nice Preamp). /Mats http://www.lexam.net/peter/carnut/man.gif What do we want? Procrastination! When do we want it? Later!
