Bootsy has a new signature bass,and it's made by Traben/Michael Kelly/OLP.

Big Traben-like shooting star bridge & inlays
Custom Aguilar 18v pre
Quarter Pounders (J)
Manufacturer's retail price is $1,290 for the four-string version and $1,430 for the five-string.

OK, my complaint: If you are going to have a press release like this on the web, you should also have the info ready to go on your own website. They have this thing called the Internet now, and companies should really get on board in terms of logistics just in case, you know, it's not just a fad or something.

I saw the Bootsy bass at NAMM and was greatly disappointed. How can it be a Bootsy model if it is not star-shaped and have 4 or 5 pickups? (I can't remember the number at the moment).

I complained to the booth bunny who of course had no idea what I was talking about.

Three years ago Washburn made a Bootsy Space bass which did have a similar appearance to the real space bass, but it only had two pickups. They said they were only going to make 100 of them so it would be a "true collector's item."

i doubt bootsy is ever going to play it. he'll probably just have it on stage when he plays shows.

They're probably just giving him a lot of money.

I'm not buying one unless it comes with the glasses, a tophat and a diaper.

Funny, that's what I said about my car, too.

Bootsy didn't wear a diaper...that was Gary Shider. Andre Foxxe wore the wedding dress.

And Bootsy was.......Bootsy.

I just want a diaper.
It has nothing to do with Bootsy.
I'm just saying that basses should come with diapers.

You know, I've been hearing great things about this new "Internet" thing.

I think I'll print off a copy so I can read it over the weekend.

\:D

Agree though -- it's goofy in this day and age not to have your stuff up on your Web site pronto. It takes like five minutes.

I don't know. I think Eric nailed it with this one. Sheer genius, I tell you. This is my post of the day.

I'm disappointed in this new Bootsy signature bass. As Jeremy pointed out, it's not star-shaped and it doesn't have 5 pickups. It's good to see Bootzilla getting endorsement deals (and money) but come on. The limited edition knock off of Casper that Washburn made a while back was equally bad, even though it was at least similar to the real deal. Ed Roman had one at his shop the last time I was in Vegas (Washburn one). He was asking $3500 for it.

Here's my thinking. The internet is important. But I've heard of companies spending their time perfecting their product for a trade show, and the advertising (in all it's forms) lags a bit. And while it's a shame, I kinda understand it.

As to the bass itself, I agree with the yawns. Although the Traben bridge concept would seem to be Bootsy's style, it seems the bass is "less" than it should be, for more money than it's worth.

I learned one more thing - not to ride in the car when CMDN drives. Either he's gonna "make use" of the diaper, or drive so that I have to.

Tom
P.S. In fact I have actually ridden in a moving vehicle with Erik behind the wheel and it was fine - diapers not required.

Madball, I don't wanna hear anything about my driving from a guy who admits that his nuts are 1/4" smaller then he thought they were.

Besides, don't you already wear diapers?

OK, they're not even trying anymore.

Look at this new model's bridge:

It's like the scrap pieces from all the other bridges.

It looks like this year's high school Metal Shop project screwed onto last year's high school Wood Shop B.C. Rich Eagle inspired project.

I'd give the Eagle ripoff a B and the bridge a trip to summer school.

But if it sounds and plays alright, I guess it really doesn't matter.

Peace,

wraub

Surely you wouldn't put a fridge magnet on such a quality instrument! That would shoot it's resale value straight into the basement!!

Just think, in 20 or 30 years we'll be on this forum carping and moaning about has Flea had the audacity to put a refrigerator magnet on a classic instrument such as that, and that is a crying shame, and he should be locked up, and how we should give that thing to someone who really knows how to take care of such a wonderful, classic instrument.

... let me tell you about the big, plastic letter Z on this part of the bridge...

Personally, I think whole "signature" anything is kinda silly. It's one thing to genuinely endorse a product you use and believe in, but is the signature article really the same as the original? Guess I'm pretty cynical when it comes to marketing.

Oh, my, you're right. Traben has opened the doors to the "lacquered vs unlacquered" metals argument, commonly found among trumpet and saxophone players. In this case it may be more "plated vs unplated" but it's the same senseless waste of time. Traben would have been wise to watch the arguments that have come to life since brass instrument makers have started using multiple colors of lacquer... it takes our silly "red is faster, black is louder" pander to a passionate level. Scary.
