gae_layahoo.it
this march a retired electrician gave me almost for free a set of cheap old microphones he had been collecting through the years. the majority of the mics were made in the 50's and 60's,way before jack and xlr plugs had been invented/marketed.nontheless, i've managed to find the right female plugs so i could use them without modifying them. anyway, there's one more microphone i have purchased from this bloke which i believe dates back to the 40's and was used by american soldiers fighting in italy during WWII. it's a figure 8 mic that looks like a pistol and has the weirdest plug i've ever seen.i would die to hear the way it sounds, yet i couldn't find the right "female" anywhere and (since it's a very old and beautiful object) i don't want to modify it. on its side i've found this reading :"microphone m-29a/u AUTOMATIC MFG. CORP." i've already tried searching on the net to no avail. is there any place on the net where i could find a list of old mic models? or,even better,is there anyone who has a vast knowledge of old mics and would like to help me? thanks grazie merci
Philip OKeefe
Try here: http://www.oaktreeent.com/microphones.htm They have several old style connectors prewired on cables that you can purchase. You might get lucky and find the "right" kind of contacts you need on this site. Another source would be HAM radio type sites or EBay. GY
"AUTOMATIC MFG. CORP"... that's a new one on me. I've owned Altec, American, Amperite and Astatic, but no Automatic! It could be that it's similar to a more common model under a different name. Can you post a picture of it? GY
