Okay, me first:
It was over a year ago when i received a call to pitch-in for one of my colleagues who can't make it for the gig...well...i said yes,...and ....it was the scariest gig i ever had...
it was sink or swim for me...
imagine this, you're the bassist of a three piece band where the pianist eats all the frequency range of your rig and he plays like jerry lee lewis on a hot saturday night while your drummer is a progressive wannabee who pitched in the last-minute.
it was not a jazz gig that i hoped for... it was a sweat jerking event...
we practiced over a dozen songs where i only knew 2...in 3 hours!!!
The Gig????
I stood(i mean, i can't even lean on my amp, i got a sore ankle after that) on stage from 8 to 11:30 in the evening ever waiting for any body language that may hint something...and every minute was spent on checking out how his left hand might move...
pretty scary...i had to perform in front of a crowd of patrons...who had eyes stuck on only the three of us...
u may think it may be a side show...
well, actually, we were the main act...
What did i learn??????
well, JUMP ON EVERY GIG AND SWIM!!! EVEN AT SHORT NOTICE....YOU DON'T KNOW WHO'S IN THE OTHER END OF THE RIVER...if it's your luck - good...well, in my case, the pianist was someone i never expected, i later found out that he was a hungarian pianist who played for Luciano Pavarotti and Carlos Santana during their European tours!...now that explains the frequency fest we were having...
Care to share yours...
