I've had my Aslin Dane for a few weeks. I have it with me on the road, and it's been in the car for 4 days now. I'm happy with it.
- It has stayed stable while in the car. OK it's only been a few days, but it's been raining and damp, and the temp varied from 45 - 75 (F). The neck has remained the same.
- The feel is good enough so I can practice without noticing that it is an inexpensive bass. One night I played the A-D for an hour, then picked up the Kinal. OK, so they aren't in the same league, but I didn't have any trouble picking up the A-D again the next day (but damn - I like the Kinal).
- I took it to two jam sessions and learned about what it sounds like amplified live (not that I expected to use it for this). The neck J PUP is a bit soft-sounding. Some of this is because the MM-bridge is so strong! The bass is passive, and I trim off a bit of treble, and the bass sounds loud, full-range, meaty, punchy, and quiet. At one session, the house bassist has a Japanese Fender with a Bassline soap at the bridge and a Bassline P (split), and the A-D had more output. Very cool.
- As stated before, there are a few issues on the finish that no one notices unless they really look at it, and they are strictly cosmetic. Everything about the bass feels sturdy.
- It won't be confused with a handmade, high quality bass, but it's solid. It serves the purpose I bought it for and then some. A-D basses would be a strong choice for starting bassists, those with limited resources, or people in rough situations (travel, open jams, etc.).
I bought the thing without a case/bag. I've been to a few stores and checked some on-line sources. I can't find a bag for it due to the extreme length (35" scale and 4+1 headstock - 49" total). Fortunately A-D has a bag, which I'm going to pick up tomorrow. Now I'm waiting for the Tascam GT-CD1 that I ordered to show up
