I know the kind you're talking about. My granddad uses them for his ukelele. I'll ask him where he gets his. I'm thinking at a local music store through the church, though, but I'll do some research for you. I did manage to "borrow" one from him and I loved the sound too, but they don't feel "quite right" for me. Now maybe I'll have to get a few for meself and do a little experimentation.

Dunlop makes some felt picks that are 3.2 mm thick and sell for about $9 for a bag of 12. I've never tried them. http://www.jimdunlop.com

I manage at a music store. Your local music store WILL be able to get them through one of their jobbers/accessory dealers. Dunlop is one of the companies. We have a bag in stock at our store. They're not a popular item, but true to your words, they do give the impression of finger-style playing while using a pick.

Get some Velcro and put the carpet strip on both sides your favorite type of pick and trim the Velcro with sissors.
