I feel like I am a bit out of the loop when it comes to the new generation of bass players on the scene. Who do you like? Scott Shiraki from bass player turned me on to Ryan from Mudvayne (who is a Warwick endorsing artist)and he is incredible! Who else is turning heads and catching ears? For the sake of limiting the field, try to recommend guys who have been on the scene less than a year.

Thanks!

My vote goes to Matt Garrison. This guy has a very advanced harmonic/melodic concept happening. He plays a High-C tuned 5 string with 27 frets and has a great command of chordal playing as well as blistering single note chops. That's all fine and well, but he's a very musical player with a unique approach. He will blow your mind.

Hey Ed,

Agree completely with you regarding Matt! I first became aware of him when I was the Editor of Bass Frontiers. We did a piece on him and I listened to his promo kit. He is amazing. You know, what I like most about his playing is how mature he sounds for such a youngster. He is so well-rounded and seems to have good ensemble listening skills.

Thanks for the reply!

Dale
