hehe... I remember about driving my Aunt crazy with that song in the summer of "68". My cousin had a bass and a drummer friend and we got together and jammed on it everyday in my cousins basement. I can't count the times we heard the phrase... "when are you boys gonna learn another damn song?"
Originally posted by Dave Bryce: I smell the rose in her hair
Ummm... *This* is the lyric that was controversial. IMO, the Kingsmen do NOT sound like they were singing these particular words... Go dig up a recording of the Kingsmen's version of "Louie Louie" and try to figure out exactly what they sang on this part... It would make Prince proud... Too funny!!! I think I always heard the "correct" lyrics except for that part about "I smell the rose in her hair"... One of those interpretations said pretty much what I think the Kingsmen are saying. Of course, I still insist that in the Doobie Brothers song "Real Love", Michael McDonald is singing "You finally walk through a toolshed", so perhaps I need to break out the Debrox... I guess not. Things don't change do they.
