Hi, I have a few questions about the surround mix of JJR.
I'm an instructor at a recording school and I use this DTS CD as one of my favorite examples.
1. When was this remixed in surround? Was it around the time of the Stereo mix? It is the only 20bit DTS disk I have, so I know its early.
2. Did you use multiple 'Stereo' effects processors to create the virtual spaces. It sounds like typically for example on "Church" a Long Hall type verb in front to simulate the Open Space of the front of the church and then a Smaller space with a quick predelay in the back to create the back of the church. Therefore placing the listener in the choir balcony just in front of the choir with Lyle singing just in front. ( I have more of these type of questions for North Dakota and such) Are you using any of the new Surround Processors (ie S6000 Tc)?
3. I met you briefly at AES in August of 2002, and just had a second to ask you what you're favorite surround mix that you had done was. You said Randy Newman, though I didn't catch the album and I have looked on the occasion and not seen any credits on the outside of the disc.
4. One of the things that I try to tell my students is that it is becomes apparent when a mixer has aproached a mix with a vision, and when something is simply in surround. Any comment.
Thanks so much
