I disagree, Phil. This is a different kind of vibe than the CD spinnin' thread.

I'm diggin' on Coltrane's "My Favorite Things" right now. I'm diggin' hard on HH and the Head Hunters' "Palm Grease."

Peace.

I'm listening to music where whales provide a lot of the bass parts, with nary a Fender to be seen or heard: various Paul Winter stuff. That could eventually lead me to works by Oregon and Paul McCandless.

I'm really in love with that Outkast single "Hey Ya." I know it's being overplayed, but since I don't listen to the radio or watch MTV, it still feels very fresh to me. Great groove.
For sale: 1992 or 1993 Carvin LB20F fretless 4-string with lines. Black with black hardware. Good player, fair amount of wear. $250 shipped.

Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise

music bySigmund Romberg, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.

I've been playing this song a lot in various groups and can't seem to get it out of my head.

And last night I heard the 1977 John Scofield Live version featuring Sco, Richie Beirach, Joe La Barbera, and George Mraz on bass. Incredible.

Ornette Coleman's Science Fiction. Sheesh - still amazing stuff decades later, and I bet Charlie Haden then could kick almost anybody's ass TODAY.

EDITS: I understand this 1971 manifesto has been remastered and reissued with the cuts from Broken Shadows and additional cuts from that same period.

Two songs that are constantly going through my head: Say Goodbye - Dave Matthews Band : great intro and subject matter I guess.

Miles Davis - All Blues : just classic stuff

"The Blues is the Roots, and the rest is the Fruits"

Willie Dixon

I've been listening mostly to some Stax stuff lately, & I've been digging:

Hip Hug Her, Booker T

Slum Baby, Booker T

Melting Pot, Booker T

Hold On I'm Coming, Sam & Dave

May I Baby, Sam & Dave

Mr. Pitiful, Otis Redding

I was also listening to the new "Let it Be...Naked" recently & really digging "Don't Let Me Down." Definitely one of my faves recently has also been "Bernadette" by the Four Tops; that song just kills. And diggin' the cool retro bass line on Steely Dan's "What a Shame about Me."

After raiding my brother's Kazaa collection, I'm digging Brand New's Glory Fades. I've also been digging the cd "So much for the afterglow" by Everclear. Oh yeah, Monk plays Ellington's "It don't mean a thing (if it ain't got that swing)" is superb.
