Bluegrass question...

I saw Patti Loveless singin' on CMT w/a bluegrass band. The URB player had a brush that looked like the sane kind drummers use. I couldn't quite make out what this sounded like by itself... Has anybaody ever heard of this technique before?

He was holding almost like a traditional drummers grip(lead hand) and brushing it across the strings as he fretted them. He also had sone sort of padded shield over his URB (with obvious wear) to protect it from the brush, so it looked like he has been doin' this technique for some time... I have never seen anybody do this before... Is it a common Bluegrass URB technique?

Interesting! I'll keep my ears open to CMT to try to catch that. Granted, I play more blue with less grass, but I have never heard of it before. If you find anythng else, keep us posted.
