Bobby Bass
Just installed the DP149 Dimarzio Ultra Jazz Pickups in my Jazz Bass. Sounds great except for the buzz I'm getting when not touching the strings. Is this normal? Checked my wiring and it looks OK. Anybody got any suggestions? Maybe it's just the nature of the passive pickups to buzz. The tone is a lot better than the EMG's I took out.
modulusman
Is there any shielding inside the cavity of your bass controls and pickups. I did all my shielding while I had my bass apart for the pickups and my bass is very quiet. I will get a link for you for some great instructions. www.thecarpentersson.ca
modulusman
If you follow these instructions, you shouldn't have a problem. You will have to modify some parts to suit a jazz bass (ie. tone controls and such) http://www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/index.html www.thecarpentersson.ca
Mike H.
Bobby, It sounds like you have a floating ground somewhere. I know from installing EMG's at work that they require disconnecting the ground to the bridge. EMG's are internally grounded, thus they don't need to be grounded to the chassis anywhere. I would start with making sure you have a ground wire from the bridge to a grounding surface on one of the pots. http://www.identity5.net
