New Limited Edition Fretless Jaguar Bass from Fender?

Recommended Posts

I almost hesitate to post this in case it puts them out of stock and I can't get one as a result, but I'm not sure I want another fretless bass ever again anyway, and even a used Tony Franklin model didn't change my mind.

The bass is nowhere to be found on Fender's own website. Anderton's doesn't say fretless or list a fret count anywhere. No YouTube examples yet either. Pickups may or may not be from the Player or Classic Player.

I wrote to Guitar Center's web administrator to verify this is fretless. Probably it is, due to the ebony fingerboard and being a limited edition. Strange that it isn't in the text writeup or the title though.

The Player pickups are OK but not great; I prefer them to the noiseless pickups that have become so fashionable. Hard to predict how they'd sound with a fretless ebony fingerboard.

Maybe this is a special edition just for Guitar Center and its affiliates in the US, which I think gives Anderton's access in the UK or maybe they have their own deal going with Fender.

UPDATE: When I zoom in on the ¾ view perspective, it definitely looks like those are raised frets and not cheat lines, so I no longer think it likely this is a fretless model or offered as such as an option.

UPDATE: Guitar Center got back to me and said they have contacted Fender to get the answer, as they too are mystified by conflicting photos and data. If it isn't fretless, I'll delete this entire post soon.
