Almost three years ago, I predicted that artists would start their own blockchain-based currencies. It took longer than I expected, but NFT (Non-Fungible Tokens) based on blockchain rights management is exploding.
Look at what
3lau and others are doing. It does have a bit of a fad/tulip mania vibe at the moment, but it will settle down into something real. It's one of the first ways I've seen for digital artists to get compensated, using a different model from things like Bandcamp, Patreon, or benevolent companies dishing out a piece of the profits.
