Selling my Kawai MP11, maybe getting a Kurzweil Forte

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Been a tough year for us all obviously with Covid, no gigs over here in the UK still, but things looking up

Hope your all keeping safe and healthy

Seem to have lost my mojo for singing and playing, bit of depression has been a cloud over my head for a good 3 or 4 months.. so I"ve been getting myself back into it and enjoying it once more, my gears been getting a lot of use finally!

enjoying my Kronos and Montage and getting sounds sorted for 2 bands I play in

Also been playing a fair bit on my Kawai MP11

Lovely Keybed action and I still love the sound of it, but a chance has risen for me to sell it for a good price and put the money towards a used Kurzweil Forte... won"t cost me a lot more

I"ve seen a lot of videos on the Forte and really like what I hear

Never owned a Kurzweil before

I just don"t know if I"d like the Keybed action

I also think you can never have enough soundsð¤£

I"m not into VST"s or stuff like that

Anyone hear got a Forte and how do you find yours compared to the Kronos or Montage and obviously the Kawai MP11

Looking forward to peoples opinions

Hi Wayne - man do you like your heavy boards. Kronos 88/Montage 8/Fantom X8 - that must come to 200lbs on its own!

I loved the Forte when I tried it, it has a very light, but premium, hammer action board. (It's a Fatar TP40/L, which Dave Weiser - ex-Kurz and Broadway and West End keyboard programming guru - says was picked for its ability to cover both piano and organ).

Some people don't like the TP40, I think it's very good personally. It will feel lighter and faster than the Fantom - I don't have experience of the other 88s you mention.

Cheers, Mike.

Heavy boards don"t bother me ð¤£

I"m the idiot who does all the lifting ð¤¦ââï¸ðð

The Kronos and Montage are to replace my Fantom X8 and Motif ES7 for using at all my gigs

I love both actions on the Kronos and Montage

I can still use the ES7 for synth solos

The Forte is a killer instrument. There are great deals on used Fortes and they are a great buy, a joy to play, and really flexible at everything, really. I love that instrument.

I too am in the UK and was interested in a Kursweil.

Do you know how few there are here in the UK?

The only store that had any was Bonners.

Does not say much for the Manufacturers Tech Support in the UK if there is very little infrastructure.

Apologies if I"m wrong, are the Fortes sounds new sounds on the board, or are they taken from previous Kurzweil boards?

I played the new Fantom 8 in my local music store, the Keybed was the best I"ve played and better (in my opinion) than the Korg Kronos 2 88 and Montage 8

However, the sounds on it just sounded like old Roland keyboards sounds and I was pretty disappointed

(Hence I bought the Montage 8)

The Forte was released as a stage piano in 2014 and has added a number of features for flash memory, VAST editing, sequencer and FM synthesis, among other things. When it was released in 2014 it featured a new 9 foot Steinway and a new 7 foot Yamaha grand, among other EPs and stock sounds, along with PC3 and Kore64 stuff from previous generation. The legacy pianos like triple strike, Horowitz Grand, Dark and Distant, etc. are all there but the Steinway and Yamaha grands were new in 2014.

I played a Forte at Wunjo in Denmark St a couple of years ago.

Personally, the dominance of Kurzweil in musical theatre in the West End means I wouldn't be worried about UK support.

Cheers, Mike.
