SOLVED: PX-5S line out levels?

Recommended Posts

Would have asked over at casio forum but it's so slow these days :)

Does anyone here know what the output level (dB) of the main L/R is set to? Got to mix one up for the weekend and the owner tells me it needs 20dB of gain? sounded a bit odd so I thought I'd ask. Surely the outs on the PX are not THAT low??

Slow? I'll double check but I wasn't aware of any issue.

20dB seems very odd. I use my almost every day here connected to the line inputs on my interface without any gain adjustment. There are areas in the Master Compressor / Limiter that would effect all sounds, I bet he's changed those by accident. By default, that is a global effect so it would be the same on all sounds. If you want to restore any of those parameters to their defaults just highlight the parameter and press the -/+ buttons.

Regarding the Casio forums were you referring to response time or the speed of the website? It seems zippy for me.

Thanks Mike I'll ask about that..it makes sense as I've never heard of line level gear needing that!

re the website, yeah I had the firefox "waiting dots" flashing for ages so I gave up and tried here.

Firefox has spent a lot more time waiting lately, everywhere. Although I am using Firefox at this moment, I'm starting to convert to MS Edge (which is Chrome based) as my default browser. Worse yet, my school system network all goes through a statewide no-porn proxy server, which gets into a pissing match with firefox from which there is no exit. Waits for TLS handshakes are interminable, probably due to Firefox thinking the porn filter is a man-in-the-middle attack.

Firefox has been quite zippy for me for over a year, running faster than Chrome or Safari on my Macbook and HP laptop alike. :idk:

Yes I must admit I have been thinking about Edge, but the inescapable fact is it IS Microsoft, and that always puts me off (you can never be sure of what they are up to, same I suppose for Firefox but at least it is, at the upper level, non-profit) ...for an OS well, ok, but anything else?

Back to the PX-5S output....

In all my years of gigging with mine, I never have had an issue the levels of the main outputs. (until the amp board inside went south...but that's another story :) )

I go from pX-5S to DI Box to FOH. I've never had an engineer tell me he needs more signal whether at a small club, or huge festival. Have you tried doing a total reset of the board so everything is in an "as delivered" state?

you are using a DI, I'm not, not that that should make any difference :)...and not my 'board :) the suggestion from Mike above I think MAY be the answer...haven't had time to check with them.

The DI doesn't make a difference. I can't run my PX-5S with the volume knob all the way up whether on stage or at home without blasting people away. DI or not.

thanks David....just to finish the thread, they had the on-board (MASTER?) compressor set to 25. i seem to recall with mine the factory standard setting was/is? something about 60??

Anyway sorted now so thanks to everyone.

@Mike Martin your answer was spot on!
