Look for "Cameo piano" or Melodigrand.

They're basically a small acoustic with drop-action, and two strings per note in the treble. I own one that I bought for 100$ and believe it or not, I take it on certain gigs (before covid that is), I just have more fun with this than a digital. It takes me about 10 minutes to tune if it's already close to pitch.

That thing looks really cool, and it's about halfway between us, so I say we race for it.

(Kidding--just grab it. Looks like 64 keys on the piano, plus an organ for leads. What a cool little box.)

It's all yours, Josh. Remember, I'm the guy that's trying to get rid of stuff! :)

I think Reeze may be right, though -- no sign of the huge tube box that makes the Solovox work...

According to the link Bobby put here, that small keyboard needs the amp/speaker/"tone box" to work. That's not pictured or mentioned in the ad. That little keyboard might make a cool wall sculpture though! The piano should probably go to the dump.

NOOOOO! A piano in really any condition to be sent to the trash heep is a sickening thought. But that little instrument looks to be in great shape. If there was any way for me to get it to Cincinnati I would love to have it.

I have a Hammond Solovox. Don't know if it works since the cable between the keyboard and tone generator has been cut in half (not by me). I would gladly give it to someone who would like to have it as long as they promise not to trash it. The wall hanging idea sounds good. :thu:

I think the Solovox qualifies as the first preset monophonic synthesizer. Although it was designed to mount below a piano keyboard, Milt Herth (a pre-Jimmy Smith Hammond jazz pioneer) stuck one on top of his Hammond organ as a third manual for solos.

Dave, I sent a note to the CL poster, asking if he actually has the tone/speaker part. If you're actually serious about trying to get it to Cincinnati, I would not mind driving down to save it for you. But the shipping logistics/plans would have to be made by you. UShip.com might be your friend, here. It's basically eBay for small shipping jobs -- you post a listing for what you need shipped, and carriers (usually individuals), make you an offer to pickup your stuff and bring it to you. I've used it once, quite successfully, to get a Rhodes from my house to a buyer in Seattle. Just a thought :thu:

I'll post here if the CL fellow answers me...

The owner reports that the piano has already been "rehomed" - he just hasn't taken the post down.

Didn't offer any info on whether or not the tone box was present...

Thanks again. I'm just glad someone is taking it over and giving it a good home. :2thu:

Ive tuned a few of those and cant recommend them They were built down to a price and sound like a cross between a banjo and a piano. I dont think any drop action piano is worth saving because they play so bad and are hard/ expensive for action service. Saw one yesterday that had a bad jack flange. Simple repair will cost them $250. Much better consoles and studios are readily available for free.

bad jack flange

Say what you want, but Bad Jack Flange was great when he was still playing small clubs. Adding the banjo was the beginning of the end though.

Probably don't want to use banjo and 'the end' in the same sentence :)

I think it's best now to keep this thread away from the Viagra one.

Now out! "Mind the Gap," a 24-song album of new material.

You have a point there...or you may not. I don't know. We've never met.

Wow. Memories. I had a Melodigrand that I bought in the late 70's. I actually had a pickup for it and gigged with it a few times. I ended up giving it to an old girl friend. I wonder if she still has it.... But I probably shouldn't get in touch to find out. My wife of 30+ years might object just a little! ð

A Solovox in good working condition is a delight. A Solovox that needs repair, replacement parts, or (God forbid) a new cable is a nightmare. I don't miss mine, especially since I live less than 20 minutes away from a studio whose owner has two, both of which he keeps in perfect working order with truly fanatical zeal...
