dazzjazz
Hi all I was just given this poor old DX7 that once belonged to Australia"s original and best jazz organist Col Nolan. It"s in terrible shape - is there anything that could be done to give it a cosmetic overall - are there specialists at that kind of thing? Normally I wouldn"t bother but as Col was a big part of me getting into organ, it has sentimental value. It"s also been modified by Robin Whittle to do a keyboard split for organ duties. I think Col sold his C3 in the 1980s, like a lot of people and went with the DX7. Can it be restored to original electronics? Perhaps it"s all a bridge too far... ProfD
If it still works, I would consider buying a parts DX7 in better shape and switch out the electronics rather than do a cosmetic overhaul. Otherwise, I would be partial to keeping the DX as a synth. Quote PD "The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return."--E. area51recording
Kind of hurts my heart to think that the original owner (jazz organist) went from a C3 to this, though.....not that I have anything against the DX7 but man that's a leap..... Bif_
Even if restored to perfection, it's still a DX7. Leave it as is. Enjoy it for what it was to Col, not something it hasn't been for a long time. David Emm
Damn, look, "King Kong Vs. A DX7!" If it sounds the way it looks, even making it playable as a sound module will be a money pit. If it still makes The Good Sound, put big bandages on it as deco and play it as if it looked shiny and new. Misdirect your audience for fun & profit! jazzpiano88
I'd keep it the way it is. If you restore it, it would have no value above any other functioning DX7. The way it is, it could be a collectable. I think it looks pretty cool. Like a beat up Millennium Falcon.
