Coker
January 17, 2021, age 96. The best big band charts for us intermediate piano hackers. Quote CA93, MODX8, YC88, K8.
cedar
One of my favorite arrangers. I'll also note that a lot of his tunes - even when meant for big bands - work well in the piano trio format. I've been playing some of his tunes in trios for years. Relaxed, swinging stuff no matter the instrumentation.
Rusty Mike
Wow, RIP Sammy. I play a LOT of your arrangements. Something notable - many, many of his big band charts start with a piano solo! Always love the Nestico charts! Quote .

PianoMan51
For a pianist playing in big bands, the Nestico arrangements show an arranger who clearly knows what sounds good on a piano, and lets us play those good sounds. I always had a smile on my face when I opened the book and found a Sammy Nestico chart. R.I.P.

Docbop
When I worked at the music school Sammy would do guest clinics on arranging now and then. I'd get to talk with him some when setting up his classroom, such a nice guy. I got to played so many of his charts in school and rehearsal bands. RIP Sammy and thanks for the music. re Pete
Hearing a tight Army big band in an acoustically great auditorium play his and others charts was life changing. I joined a big band not long after. He was a smart arranger. RIP
Bobadohshe
There was nothing like Sammy. His charts always swung so hard. And of course it helped when Basie played them. His arranging book was life changing for me. ...And his piano charts were overwritten (I know you know it) but still overall greatness. Rusty Mike
...And his piano charts were overwritten (I know you know it) but still overall greatness. He certainly wasn't alone in that regard! Most big band piano charts are way too busy. His wonderful arrangements will endure. I've played countless charts of his. Love every minute of them. Quote . harmonizer
I am primarily a sax player. I played his big band charts as a sax player in school jazz bands starting in 5th grade extending thru 4 years of college. He created great music. RIP Mr Nestico.
