BMD
I'm proud of this one The production is crap (it was ever thus with my songs) but I like the vibe and the 'message'. And I like the words. Usually I just write down the first thing that pops into my head, but with this I took my time It's about the heinous crime of child abuse, particularly as perpetrated by Catholic priests and school teachers Holy Mother! See that guy with a crazy smile and a photograph of Jesus? Internet connection is complete Locks the door with a shaky hand in mad anticipation Licks his lips and then resumes his seat Images of innocence, uncaring of the consequence, salivating as his fingers dance Crucifix and rosary forgotten momentarily. His heaven is a garden where the children play Holy Mother! See that guy with a suit and tie, putting books upon a table? Summer holiday is now complete Rings the bell with a sweaty hand and waits for inspiration So much more than history to teach You boy with the golden hair, you need extra-curricular Stay behind when everyone"s gone home Let me teach you what I know, who is friend and who is foe I can make it easy or so hard for you Holy Mother! Institution or individual, the song and dance are everlasting Throw your hat into the ring and throw your conscience on the fire Turn your heart to stone and turn yourself toward your nightly horror Let the guilt be fleeting and the pain will be eclipsed by pleasure Night-time has awakened you, you know what you have to do Turn toward the mesmerising screen Morbid curiosity has got you where you want to be Now you pay the price and so do they for you Holy Mother! MAJUSCULE
I'd say I'm pretty proud of this one (even if I'm not sure we'd go for quite the same production if we redid the record). I wrote and arranged most of everything, singer helped with the hook. It's maybe a little bit of a change in vibe from yours, considering the subject matter. This one is a tribute to those friends who you can pick up with just the same no matter the time or distance that separates you [video:youtube] Quote Eric Website Gear page
Anderton
It's an interesting question. My songs don't make "statements," really, they tell stories. On one level, I'm proud of pretty much everything I've done - I put my heart, soul, and best technical efforts into everything I do. And I have written some songs that affected people (one person told me he was listening to "Daughter" while driving, and had to pull over because it affected him so deeply that he didn't feel it was safe to drive while crying). But in terms of writing an anthem that will change the world, or creating a song I wish the entire world would hear...I don't think I have any of those. I just hope that people enjoy what I do, and in the case of my latest album, makes them feel happy. Chip McDonald
A song that I wrote off the cuff as an excuse to test an artificial singing VST (emvoice), that seems to resonate with me more than anything else I've done. Maybe because of how personal it is? But also how I managed to make the lyrics work within the phrasing limitations of the plugin, and being able to make the music/melody match exactly what I wanted, without dilution. I had a German shepherd for over a decade, that always sat at my feet when doing music at home, and she was not doing well - and was on my mind at the time. She had hip dysplasia, and probably cancer; spent more and more time daily sleeping, except when trying to stand at the door looking outside - which was extremely sad to watch. I knew she would pass soon. She's laying at my feet but getting up slowly. As she tries hard every day She's unsteady and unsure But she sees green trees, and all she's missing Not today Pay for it later today doesn't matter Sleeps cures it all again Not today More sleep, running around More sleep, running around Dreaming, running, never catching Running, catching, sleeping Dreaming, running, never catching Running, catching, sleeping Trying, still breathing Paris Not Today Quote Guitar Lessons in Augusta Georgia: www.chipmcdonald.com Eccentric blog: https://chipmcdonaldblog.blogspot.com/ / "big ass windbag" - Bruce Swedien
Song80s
All my stuff is instrumental so maybe we are not apples to apples. I use to do some 'covers' but my listeners prefer original material. Just the same , each original has a premise, a photo, and the music supports the premise. I have been at it for + 3 years on SoundCloud and have built a respectable listener base. For example, I average 150 new listeners daily. I have +80 songs , 5 playlists, so new listeners can explore what I have composed/recorded. SoundCloud has a strong Euro/Asia presence and its fun to chat with listeners from all over. If building a listener base is a goal, here's an example of my approach: ======================================================= We can create Acts of Kindness, and enjoy a better and safer world. Acts of Kindness is song#1 on my SC profile: Song#2 is Storm Before Flowers Sog#3 is Fire Walkers Alone and so on. All instrumental on my Kronos. A mix of genres, I call it chilled retro. Notes_Norton
Although I consider myself a very good improvising soloist, I've never written a song I liked. I suck at writing lyrics. They sound so corny to myself, that I don't even want to show them to anyone else. I have a lot of musical skills, lyrics are not one of them, so I guess I'll never be a singer/songwriter.
