Is KC access slow?

Recommended Posts

Still getting logged off at random intervals.

Same here. And after several days of very fast service, it had a moment of impossible slowness. It seems to be back to speed now.

That may have happened while we were changing DNS - took a bit of time to propagate.

Starting to see hangup events again either when getting onto the site or once on the site. Things, for me, had been purring along but in the last week speed and movement screen to screen issues are starting to rear its ugly head again. Interestingly, I also got logged out while in the middle of a post. Was logged in, started to write a posting response and when when I actually posted the response i received a message that I wasn't logged in.

I didn't want to mention it because I figured that either 1) others were seeing it and it was gonna be dealt with so why add to the noise, or 2) maybe it was something on my end since I didn't see anyone else talking about it (until now!). I've been seeing occasional hiccups for weeks, where pages would take 20 - 30 seconds to load or sometimes not at all. Not 20-30 seconds as in all the elements slowly getting on the page - more like the page starts to load, pauses while still blank or mostly blank, then 20-30 seconds later it all comes flying in. Also, I'm having to log back in a few times a week.

I get slowdowns. I'm also still getting random logoffs--are those part of the same problem or is that a separate issue?

Grey

It's a separate issue than the logoff issue, but thanks for the reminder. I ran into a dead end on that one and need to take another look.

Interesting; I've had this trouble across the internet at various times over the past year or two, and was afraid it meant I'd been invaded by a virus or a trojan. Good to see I'm not the only one, and that it usually is server-related. It happened to me on this forum just now, but it's been a while since that happened here (for me). Occasionally on facebook, sometimes in GMail, and various other places where an editor is involved.

At least some of it is my kids being home due to lockdown and burning crazy amounts of bandwidth (Minecraft being a major culprit, but also their streaming video for school). That affects all sites, not just this one.

I'm not interested in someone's ability to program. I'm interested in their ability to compose and play.

Yep, I haven't had any issues the past few days, and I didn't mean to complain either; just thought it worth making people aware, as I had previously assumed any fault was at my end and spent a lot of time trying to diagnose whether my computer was infected (as I have had sluggishness at other sites now and then as well).

Kudos for the pro bono work that you guys do to keep this forum active, available, and free!

It took forever to get on to the site earlier today, but once I was on it was like greased lightning.

Looking at the logs we had an attempted DDOS attack originating from the US on an IP owned by Amazon Web services. The firewall detected and eventually blocked it but I have put the IP on permanent ban now.

I was using the forum earlier just fine. Tried to access it again a few minutes ago and it took three minutes to load the main page, and 1.5 minutes to load this thread.
