Bruce Swedien, RIP

Recommended Posts

I was lucky enough to work with Bruce during the '90s. He was a consummate professional and a good guy.

I have a fond memory of eating lunch with him when I went to New York to work on 'Stranger in Moscow.' He told me stories about when he first started out during the big band era.

RIP, Bruce. You'll be greatly missed.

Best,

Arguably the King of studio recording. His work will be textbook material for future generations of recording engineers. RIP Mr. Swedien.

I remember really well Bruce's contributions on this forum, and they alone make his loss a big one let alone his amazing career. Bruce was a gasser and he will be missed.

What a colossal loss. Didn't know he was that old, but I guess it makes sense. Phillingaines said of him on a recent podcast that Bruce made the music sound 'three dimensional'. What an apt description.

A true legend.

Interesting factoid for us keyboard folks. On Thriller and Off the Wall, he would record synths through a mic'd speaker in a room, as well as direct. Not sure if he continued that practice, but those albums certainly speak for themselves.
