Final Countdown

the sample and hold synth into to Karn Evil 9 1st Impression part 2

Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)

That melodic synth hook between verses in the Car"s 'Just What I Needed.'

Same for Head East"s 'Never Been Any Reason.'

I wouldn"t call them solos, more like composed C sections - but the 80s are packed with them. The Tubes - I"ll Talk to You Later gifts the synth a section of the song.

Yamaha CP88, Casio PX-560

Memorable synth hooks heard while watching NFL football today:

DJ Snake - Turn Down For What

Britney Spears - Toxic

Flo Rida - Low

I may post more later. We're only an hour into the first game.

Oh yeah... Go Hawks! (later this afternoon)

The Cars first album (The Cars) is crawling with signature synth licks. OK, maybe some of them are not synths.

Living in Stereo, Good Times Roll, You're All I've Got Tonight, Bye Bye Love, Moving In Stereo, All Mixed Up all have signature keyboard licks.

A timeless record.

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.

1) The first couple of minutes of "Kyrie" by Mister Mister. Not exactly a hook, but its a powerful moment all the same.

2) The first time I ran my first Prophet-600 through a grainy reverb and heard this mega-LFO chord I liked blossom like mad.

The absent-mindedness, I've got that licked."
