Issues with Velocity and Multiple notes...

Recommended Posts

So I just swapped the MP11SE for the Montage 8. I have it connected to my 2019 Mac Pro via USB. To be clear, I never had this problem with the MP11SE.

I bring up my Pro Tools template, and I'll record a staccato violin (one note only) on the Montage (in this case C4, but this happens no matter what notes I play), it'll show up as though it's been played 5 times. See pic below.

As you can see from the pic, there are (5) C4 Events. When I play the note, 4 of the 5 events will appear in the MIDI Event list when the key is down. When I let go of the key, 1 event will appear.

The other thing that occurs is that when I'm recording the staccato violin, it's much louder than when I'm playing it back.

Any thoughts as to why this is happening? Thanks!

Another thing to look at:

In the Performance you're playing on the Montage, how many parts make up the sound?

Depending how you set up you Montage, all parts could be sending MIDI data. i.e. it's possible that Performance is made up of 5 separate parts.

For recording vs. playing back, you may be getting double-monitoring of the input pair and the main output pair. That would explain why it sounds louder.

Hi David, how do I change this so that only one part is sending data? Thanks

Hi Mark, I just got the Montage, so I'm not very familiar with it. What do you mean by "may be getting double-monitoring of the input pair and the main output pair", and how do I change this? Thanks

Guys, I think I got it. There's a lot of info on this page about what I was trying to do.

https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/yamaha-montage-daw-setup-and-recording/

In the Setting up your DAW section, I turned off the 5 KbdCtrl channels. That fixed both the loudness I was hear during playback and the multiple midi notes.

Is there a way to save this setting so that I don't have to turn off the 5 KbdCtrl every time I turn the Montage On?

Thanks!
