tmwsccsh
Hi all, First time post here so forgive me if anything here has been covered previously. I've decided it's time to get back into music after a 10 year or so break. Previously I was using Musicator version 3 running on an old Windows XP Laptop connected to a Yamaha PSR410 via a USB Midi cable for output. Well, times have obviously moved on and the old XP Laptop is kind-of no more. Windows 10 is where I am now and I have found on-line a demo of Musicator Version 6 which is time limited to 14-days so I can open my old files but there's a couple of issues. Oh, and I have a utility that let;s you trick the date to an application so there's always 7 days left on the 14-day demo :-) My main query is relating to Midi under Windows 10. How does it work now? Where's Midi Mapper gone? I have now got a Yamaha DOU-10 connected via the USB Midi adaptor now and the output works fine from Media Player (but I had to use Coolsoft Midi Mapper to get it to see it) but I cannot figure out at all how to get Musicator 6 to play through the Midi interface - it just uses the internal Windows GS Wavetable Synth. In the old days I simply changed an output in Musicator 3 to use Midi Mapper and off you went - can't find any such option in this new(er) release. So is there anyone out there that might perchance be using Musicator V6 who has experience with USB Midi working with the application? Oh, and I did try a new Akai Mini Play - could get Midi step-input to work into Musicator but, again, could not get output redirected to the Midi Out to that to play at all - just the internal synth. Thanks in advance for any pointers. Regards TMW
mcgoo
Hello and welcome to the forum. You'll find this place to be a friendly and helpful place to hang, but.... When you openly admit to using a utility that cracks a demo, you'll probably find most are going to be hesitant to offer any help. Software developers lives matter too! ElmerJFudd
Maybe LoopBe1 https://nerds.de/en/loopbe1.html And or MIDIOX would be helpful to you. http://www.midiox.com If you are interested in just doing MIDI sequencing (no audio or DAW features) there are still some oldies around.. http://www.passportmusic.com/products/master-tracks-pro/ But I think you will find a lot of progress has been made in music software since Windows XP and you may enjoy what is possible now with regard to virtual instruments. I know what you mean about the admission, but the product was discontinued a few years ago, the website is defunct and the support forum no more. I did amazingly find the contact details for the developer - currently a professor in a University so I dropped him an email but no response as of yet - I suspect there probably won't be and he's moved on now. The main reason I want to carry on with the product I had is old files - I won't have to convert them over to a different format, which I think would only be possible by exporting as MIDI files and then back in again But my Midi problem does remain though - Windows 10 really doesn't seem to like it in some guises - found much on-line about Midi problems with Win 10 and I think that's where part of my issue could be. I've got 2x Win 10 laptops and both are exhibiting similar issues - it's as if the software doesn't know there's anything other than an internal synth... Case dismissed. ð Quote Custom Music, Audio Post Production, Location Audio www.gmma.biz https://www.facebook.com/gmmamusic/
ElmerJFudd
How does your Yamaha DOU-10 connect to the computer? Are you using a USB midi interface and connecting to it over 5 pin MIDI cable? Quote Yamaha CP88, Casio PX-
tmwsccsh
How does your Yamaha DOU-10 connect to the computer? Are you using a USB midi interface and connecting to it over 5 pin MIDI cable? Hi, Yes indeed - USB to midi adaptor then standard 5 pin. ElmerJFudd
It sounds like the culprit is the USB MIDI adapter. Who is the developer and do they suggest it is USB MIDI class compliant or does it have a developer proprietary driver that requires installation? tmwsccsh
It's a plug and play one - works fine on XP and does show up in Device Manager as there and ready. I suspect that there's something amiss in the way Windows talks to Midi - the device doesn't seem to show up as an option to select anywhere, but it's not giving any Windows errors to suggest it's not... tmwsccsh
Thats a really good point - I never even thought about that. Yes. It's the same one I used all those years ago - the adaptor is probably 15 years or so. Maybe it's time to get a new one... Good shout! tmwsccsh
New one ordered - went for one similar to the current one but says it's now updated for Windows 10. Will make sure I remove all device references to the original before plugging in. Regards TMW
