marczellm
https://www.roland.com/us/products/rc_jupiter-8_model_expansion/ I know that you have to subscribe to Zenology to use such a thing on a computer, but can someone enlighten me on how it works with ZEN-Core hardware such as the Fantom or Jupiter-X? AnotherScott
I still find all the roland could stuff a bit baffling. But the Jupiter-X already includes Jupiter 8 emulation, so it's presumably not an issue there. I don't know whether it can be loaded into the Fantom... my guess is no, but I"m not sure. BRW
Don't know the answer to the OP's question but does anyone know how much does it cost to just subscribe to Cloud if I ONLY want Zenology and the Zen plugins?

David Emm
Not long after I was grousing about subscriptions, the D-50 finally appeared as a free-standing plug-in. Yes, I knew what I was getting into with an 80s icon, but its already a nice WIN. The layering aspects are especially pleasing beyond what I remembered from my Bronze Age experience. Just a bit can greatly broaden other synths. I have a fistful of random-patch-generator fare on top of some 3rd party buys, so its a self-contained bit of fun. This worked well, so I can cautiously recommend the Jupiter-8 in the same form. Give Arturia's version a look as well, just to compare. It has its own pluses. Pardon my diverted ramble over the D-50, but here is a pretty definitive chart for you. The RD-88 thread has more on it, but it seems that you can drop a Zen-core PATCH into any compatible instrument, minus the hardware controls. If you build a JP-8 patch you like in Zenology, its transferable. https://www.roland.com/us/support/by_product/rc_sdz001_crystal_mood/support_documents/319ed642-8e1d-4b0b-a6ec-5d730f30cd8d/ Quote "I want to be an intellectual, but I don't have the brainpower. It does confirm my initial post... the Jupiter 8 expansion doesn't apply to the Jupiter X because it's already built into that model; and it is not available on the Fantom (or RD88). But contrary to your post, I see no reason to believe you can load a JP-8 patch into a board that does not have the JP-8 model expansion in it. Mark Schmieder
I haven't had a chance to compare it yet to the non-Zen version (or to Arturia's). NI have a sort-of clone as well, called Super 8, but it's kind of a hybrid synth, emulating a Prophet as well as digital stuff. I wrote to a Sweetwater rep about this and he said "As I understand it, you can create a sound within Zenology and then drop it into any Zen-core instrument." That sounds like JP-8 sounds without the JP-8 expansion proper. Zenology patches can (seemingly) be fed to any empowered instrument. However, I'll talk to the rep by phone and confirm. I don't wish to misinform, nor labor under an illusion. I hope I'm correct, because it'd be a savvy way to sell more users on the Roland Cloud. Its not as if the RD is lacking much without it, TBH. I suspect you can transfer any sound from one zen-core model to another if they are straight zen-core engine sounds, but if a sound required an optional engine to create (e.g. JP8), it probably requires the presence of that engine to load the patch.
