Cables that Make a Difference

Recommended Posts

I found some old cable up in my ceiling, once used for a heat pump but that system was replaced years ago. I hate to toss this and I'm thinking this will definitely improve the audio quality significantly; obviously a thicker sound and much warmer based on it's volt/amperage spec.

Since it's unshielded it's probably best used for speaker cable. Does anyone know where to buy 1/2" speaker terminals/connectors? Also a cheap arc welder?

Looks like aluminum?

I would not use aluminum wiring for anything except AC power. It's not a great conductor, is subject to surface corrosion and is very difficult to weld.

Cut the plastic covering off and toss the wire in the recycling bin, on to the next.

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.

Yes, gotta love that thick warm sound. If you visit an audiophile store, you can buy little wood blocks for a few hundred dollars to keep that nice thick cable off the floor where it is subject to "parasitic excitation" or something.

Stop by for a picture with the UFO on your way out the door...

Are the cables in the photo with the 1/4" phone plug multi-pair with a wrapped shield? If so, they might be useful.

No, that"s just plain old Mogami 2549 mic cable for size comparison.

Makes sense since it"s not shielded. I"m sure they would talk me out of it otherwise.
