Recommended Posts

https://blog.macsales.com/49545-tipoff-15-turn-off-safari-autocorrect/

In Safari, click inside any text entry field or the Address BarâI"m not sure why this has to be done, but if you don"t, the option is greyed outâand then select:

Edit â Spelling and Grammar â Correct Spelling Automatically

Uncheck all 3 choices.

There.

This makes for a better day and less swearing at the F^%%%$ing computer

maybe google for the 'secret handshake'.

Another twice daily interruption;

Automatic Updates on OSX. %%%$$^$##@#STFU

How do I stop my Mac from asking me to update?

Click on the Apple menu in the top bar.

Open System Preferences.

Find the App Store. Or Updates.

Turn off the 'Automatically check for updates' option Etc etc

Steps vary based on your OSX. I am on Catalina Island ;)

Thanks for the auto correct tip - very hapily terned it orf.

most welcome. These 'little nagging features' build up over time, maybe its OSX nonsense

Fortunately , with some googling , the disabling steps can be found.

Next challenge- tun off wierd introduction ads on YouTube videos- without paying for YT.

Or an ad in the middle of the YT video- what a shit ad idea that is.

P.S. There is a difference between updating and upgrading. If you're not currently on Catalina and don't want to be, you can still update to the latest Mojave or whatever else you're running. I've seen posts by some who should know better about turning off ALL updates in order to avoid upgrading to Catalina, and that's incorrect. How am I so sure? I have a drive on my iMac running Mojave and while there's a red badge on the Software Update pane of System Preferences to tell me about Catalina, it hasn't tried to upgrade me. I have to manually click the button for that to happen. Meanwhile, I have let it update Mojave several times since Catalina shipped.

Also, it hasn't been called "OS X" since 2016. Get with the times, guys. :snax::poke:;)

AdGuard seems to work fine here (Mojave). Free on the App Store.

Have not found an option for doing the same on iOS, where YT is its own app.

Yep. I let Mojave auto-update (check the "Advanced" button in the System Preference pane for granular options on what to update*), while the Catalina upgrade is constantly shown as pending but won't install without me actually clicking "upgrade".

*) You can turn off auto-updating of App Store apps here.
