ElmerJFudd
The CMA has fined 2 musical instrument makers a total of £5.5 million, in 2 separate cases, for breaking competition law by restricting online discounting of musical instruments. 'The fines on the companies, Roland and Korg, which make, among other things, electronic drum kits and hi-tech music equipment and synthesizers, follow fines recently imposed on two other leading suppliers in the sector, Casio and Fender. All of these companies have been fined for implementing resale price maintenance (RPM) designed to restrict retailer freedom to set prices online by requiring their musical instruments to be sold at or above a minimum price.' https://www.gov.uk/government/news/musical-instrument-firms-to-pay-millions-after-breaking-competition-law Quote Yamaha CP88, Casio PX-
Biggles
Good for us buyers with lower prices. Questionable for our High St Music Instrument Stores who have enough of a problem competing with online companies like Amazon. Here in the UK Companies like Amazon pro rata pay far less UK Tax than Companies based in the UK since they are not technically based here. We slap a Tax on Amazon and your shit for brains USA Government slap tariffs on our Exports to the USA Quote Col
KuruPrionz
Interesting. Mesa Boogie has done that with their amps since they introduced them. I guess they get a pass, being a smaller company... Bif_
How does "resale price maintenance (RPM)" differ from MAP (minimum advertised price). Quote Kurzweil Forte, Yamaha Motif ES7, Muse Receptor 2 Pro Max, Neo Ventilator

Song80s
Good for us buyers with lower prices. A I am pleased the UK takes an active role in this area. I wish it were the case here in the US. Those days are gone. I can't address the other parts of your post. I completely get the frustration. Quote Why fit in, when you were born to stand out ? Biggles
How does "resale price maintenance (RPM)" differ from MAP (minimum advertised price). Here in the UK we do not have MAP, but RPM is effectively similar. The UK laws on Price Fixing are intended to penalise any attempt to stifle the free market and stops a product being sold at a level that is not advantageous to the consumer. It can be odd as here in the UK a Yamaha Genos is the equivalent of $4000 whilst in the USA the very same arranger keyboard is readily priced at $6000 Quote Col
TommyRude
When I read the header I quickly extrapolated to "Musical instrument firms to pay millions to TommyRude to endorse their gear!" I happily dwelt in that scenario for about 1-2 seconds.
