I wonder if the music stores may throw them away when new gear comes in or they put out floor models to demo. Probably worth asking.

UPS told me they cut down or "make" boxes out of bigger or smaller boxes if they don't have anything the right size. My work mail department does the same thing. I had a big box from something else in the garage, just folded it around the keyboard (in its case) and taped it to **** and back. I had packing stuff inside the case, and bubble wrap outside the case, perhaps overkill but it doesn't hurt.

I"ve had good luck with used boxes from local bicycle shops. You have cut them down a little, though.

Nearly every decent-sized city actually has a company that stocks/makes and sells boxes from a nondescript warehouse somewhere. I have had great luck just going there and picking out what I need from a huge stock.

As a start: Check out U-Line to see if they have a local emporium...

All good options from above!!!

I'll add another one - appliance stores or big chain stores like Costco.

Unless it is a custom lined box designed for that specific keyboard, I would double box it. Primary concerns on the inner box are protection on the corners (lots of bubble wrap or thick foam) and a snug fit, you don't want the keyboard moving around inside the inner box. Use plenty of packing tape to prevent that box from changing shape.

The outer box should provide some space for cushioning and protecting the corners of the inner box. It's better by far to over-protect your keyboard, don't scrimp on packing.

Under no circumstances should you use any peanuts, ever. Peanuts are OK for small, light objects that are wrapped to prevent peanut intrusion. Overall, peanuts suck, I'd rather use crumpled newspaper if you can find any.

FWIW, I've been selling on eBay since 2000 with 885 positive feedback and no negative. I've packed a LOT of boxes!!!! Cheers, Kuru

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.

I pull them from the attic, where I stored them when the board was new.

Yeah, I kept a bunch for a while, but they were done in by a combination of frequent moving and a "helpful" friend who broke them down and put them out for recycling while housesitting.

The Reverb tip is excellent, thanks for that!

Last time I needed to ship some Keyboards I got boxes from a Piano store that sold larger home model digital Pianos and cut them to fit. Also got boxes from a bike shop.

I"ve been keeping the original boxes for this very reason but the space they take up over the long term is substantial. Especially for keyboards that I"ll probably play until they break.

My basement.

Yep, I don"t park a car in my garage because of all the boxes and other junk in there. The rider mower still fits...barely.

Most big items from a large online distributor arrive double boxed in somewhat custom-cut cardboard containers. Takes some practice to do it right, and these folks do it pretty well.
