Song80s
Taken from a Korg Kronos 88 ad: "No manual , warranty. MINT condition except has minor dent and scratches in front bar and in a back and side panels .Everything else in works no problems " The word " mint " bugs me. These stores that throw it around, to impress are lame. I know there are plenty of dumb ads on Craigs list, sure. But for a + $2500 keyboard ? In my universe, there should be standards. So mint has descended into the smelly swamp of uselessness. Go on, tell me I am grumpy Quote Why fit in, when you were born to stand out ? KuruPrionz
"Highly Collectable" is abused often enough. I've seen it used to describe the "Budweiser Edition" of a cheap import guitar for one. jeffincltnc
Reverb has a specific set of guidelines for listing condition and a definition of Mint here: https://help.reverb.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013525833-Gear-Conditions-and-What-They-Mean Mint For something to truly be mint, it needs to be just shy of Brand New. Polychrest
Chops: as in when someone tells you a keyboard player has 'great chops'. So you go to the gig and discover that in this case, 'chops' is short for 'Chopsticks'. On a good night, at the very top of his game, this player might deliver a great version of Chopsticks. Song80s
I didn't think of that: Chops: PLURAL NOUN 1informal A person's or animal's mouth or jaws. More example sentences 'a smack in the chops" 'His chops curled back to reveal the fangs, laid-back yet potentially lethal." 'The beast sneered at the cut on the man's shoulder and licked its chops." brenner13
Perhaps OT, but I've noticed a furniture store that's been "going out of business" for nearly 30 years. First of all, most folks [ not here] don't know what a cassette deck is. Then, when I locate a deck , its either $250 [ gou-gy] or the owner claims its in perfect condition. Then, after 10 minutes of messing around, the owners 'iconic ' cassette deck does not work. Go figure. " Perfect conditions does not equal ' does not work '. I went thru a phase listening to "college students react to old songs" videos - EVERYTHING out of their mouths was 'iconic this" and "iconic that." that's an accurate observation. And not everyone is 20 something yrs old. The media started 'marginalizing ' the proper use of words like iconic some 10 years ago. Part of the problem here is that our local media dumb downs the level of reporting to a 3rd grade level. I don't like it, for sure, esp considering our area has a large concentration of college level education plus awareness of important issues. Quote Why fit in, when you were born to stand out ? AUSSIEKEYS
Iconic. Especially when an internet sales site takes over the name "Iconic" as a brand name and its becomes even more reguarly heard on aussie TV. This was when TV still had some relevance. For most of its existence i still didnt know what it sold. Its adverts were just so non descript about their products just seemingly and endelessly using the term "iconic" hee hee Not sure if this is or was just an aussie brand????
