Deep Stands??

Recommended Posts

Hi all, First time posting. I am looking for a new Z style stand that is deep, so I can put an iMac behind my keyboard.

Been using a laptop, mounted on a stand, but I need my iMac size and capabilities now. I thought of just some plywood on my stand, but its not going to be sturdy enough. Does anyone know of a good strong stand with enough depth to hold the iMac and a couple of monitors?

Thanks for your help, Bob

Hi, welcome to the forum Bob!

Are you trying to fit the Kronos or the CP73 on the stand with the iMac? Assuming it's the 21.5" iMac.

You may want to look into a two-tier stand and set the upper bars to be flat. For monitors you might be better served by independent monitor stands - they're not terribly expensive I don't think. Otherwise Jaspers Stands out of Germany used to make some heavy-duty "keyboard workstation" stands that would do what you want I think.

My setup is what Mighty Motif Max suggested, a two-tier Z-stand. I use solid piece of hardwood for the 2nd tier shelf.

Hercules 2-Tier Z-Stand, runs around US$200.

Notes:

I recommend using hardwood for the shelf vs. the typical MDF/OSB/particle board. A good piece of hardwood is sturdier and can effortlessly handle the weight overtime. I originally used the MDF/OSB/Particle Board/plywood but it all started to sag over time.

I personally use the On-Stage KS7365-EJ stand. Quite heavy-duty, I use it for my gigs with two keyboards (a Motif XF8 and a Korg Krome 61). As long as your bottom board is good and heavy, you won't have to worry about anything tipping back. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ZStd2Tier--on-stage-stands-ks7365-ej-pro-heavy-duty-folding-z-stand-with-2nd-tier No complaints, though the edges are a little sharp when putting it in a vehicle, for example. It folds down somewhat even with the 2nd tier.

If this is going to just be at home and mostly permanent, you might look into something like the On-Stage WS7500B or similar - more of a workstation desk. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/WS7500B--on-stage-stands-ws7500-wooden-workstation-black

Hi Mighty Motif Max, I want the CP73 on the stand with the iMac, but its the 27" version. I don't know if it would fit well on a second tier. Its kinda big. Bob

Your best bet might just be a desk. Or a heavy-duty Z-stand with a large slab of wood on top for more surface area. You're definitely going to need a solid surface for the iMac, while most stands have supports and that's it. There's also a "T-style" workstation stand that might be even sturdier for adding a top to.

Thanks....Been looking at both of your suggestions. The "T" style stand would be just like a desk with a good solid slab of wood, and might go with it, but I really wanted to find a "Z" style that is deep enough to fit both the CP and the iMac together, utilizing a wood slab for the iMac.

Thanks, Bob
