Anderton
Got this from reading Bob Lefsetz's newsletter: "I engineered Rafael doing his sax thing a couple of years later on another record. He explained they got the Baker Street solo sound by opening the lid of a piano in the studio, placing heavy 2' tape boxes on the sustain pedal and blending the sound of all those strings vibrating sympathetically with each note he played. "Those were the days when engineers actually got off their chairs and experimented! - Walt Aldridge" Dude has a point. Presets, anyone? KuruPrionz
When I was 15, I had an old beater Fender Strat, early 60's and a small Kay guitar amp. I opened the front panel of the family upright, propped it, put the amp up there aiming at the strings on the piano, put a brick on the sustain pedal and rocked out. Reverb!!!! Truly, nothing else sounds like that. Now I want to do that! Quote It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is. The Real MC
Weather Report did a similar trick too. Joe Zawinul held down chords on the piano without striking the strings while Wayne Shorter directed his soprano saxophone into the piano.
