John Prine has passed on at 73 years of age, another fallen to Covid_19.

I will sing Burnt Orange tonight in John's honor. I know a couple of his songs and played in a band for years that performed quite a few of them. I did see him live, once. It was a great show.

Relatively little known fact, John was a very early adapter to "indie record companies", having founded Oh Boy Records in 1981. This was his response to a record company wanting out of their contract with John due to poor sales of his most recent album. I remember seeing his records for sale by mail order in the back pages of Rolling Stone magazine long ago. Sales from one album would support the costs of recording another one.

A great songwriter and historically important for taking control of his own Art.

He will be missed.

Sad, he was indeed unique.

In the good news category, it appears Tom Rush is recovering...

Poor John had already had throat and lung cancer - so he was really at risk.

73, too young to go! He still had a lot of music in him.

He'll be much more popular now which will be good for his legacy, but....

RIP to a national treasure.
