desertbluesman
Should I remove the knobs to clean the potentiometers on my Egnater Tweaker 15 watt head? And then just try and get the stuff between the shaft and the housing? There also about 5 on-off or on-off-on mini switches. I guess you can just spray in and flip them several times to clean them also. See photo below click on it to enlarge if needed. KuruPrionz
For whatever reason, circuit board pots are not usually designed to be cleaned and require caution and skill to replace. Older ones had the metal cans with the opening for cleaning on the same side as the leads for the circuit boards. Newer ones appear to be sealed. You can try to get enough cleaner to creep in from the front but I am pretty skeptical that any significant amount will ever reach the wiper/contact strip - which is where the dirty pot sounds come from. It won't hurt anytihing to try it and it may make the pot easier to turn since there is a lubricant in t. So worth an experiement at least. This is a big reason why some prefer point to point wiring, you can easily replace a bad pot, jack or switch. All of the Mesa amps I used to have had the pots, switches and jacks mounted to the chassis and leads "flown" from the components to the circuit board. That is another good way to do it. Worst case, try turning the pots back and forth vigorously for a couple dozen full back and forth turns and see if that helps at all. Sometimes if we leave the pots in one place they get "glitchy". Good luck!!! Kuru Quote It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.
