It's been a while...with all this time on our hands, maybe it's time for us to do a new one? idk

For those of you who don't know, there was a period more than a few years back where we were generating complations on a regular basis. Originals, covers, both free form and with themes. We did twelve of them that we made into actual CDs. See attached photo.

...and before starts talking about how we should post all of those, these are original pieces of work of past and present forum members as well as cover tunes. The legal aspects seem as if they would be problematic. eek

For a new one, doing it from the start with the intention of posting it online for free would probably be the way to go.

Thoughts?

I would certainly love to listen to, and hopefully be a part of, one of these. I've heard them talked about on the forum, but they all predate my hanging around here by quite a few years.

Same here.

How is licensing handled for cover tunes for this type of thing? Each person buys their own license, or some kind of bulk one that covers everything?

yeah I'd be up for it for sure! Hey is there anywhere we can listen to any of those previous comps?

In the case of covers, each person would buy their own. I use the Harry Fox Agency's Songfile service

It ain't much for a mechanical royalty license for one tune for the purpose of digital distribution only.

Sadly, no....not unless someone sends you a copy. They are not online anywhere that I know of.

I’d certainly be interested in hearing (and purchasing) said recording if it came to fruition.

I'd be provisionally interested, but its hard to say how my dabblings might stand up alongside those of people whose skills place mine closer to the simian category. I could offer a novelty piece, perhaps, like my little ditty made up of 90% squirty resonant formant patches. Its a mescaline Munchkin choir, but it has its merits. I know its a casual thing, but you still have to pass the cut of the group's final decisions. Creation of a CD seems less likely here, so the digital list could be 2 hours rather than just one or so. Good idea.

Yes!!! I love the xmas compilation and have practically worn its digital grooves off of it. I would have happily paid full price for it - it is excellent - and If the others were available on CD baby etc. I would happily buy them also. (Maybe you should consider reissuing them as digital downloads?)

I would be interested in submitting something to be included on this, but if there turns out to be not enough space I will be happy to simply purchase it. smile

As mentioned in my first post, putting these online seems problematic. I believe I would need the permission of every artist who submitted a tune, along with that of the composer where appropriate. Many of these folks are no longer active forum members...

Maybe I could do a greatest hits thing by selecting tunes from the past comps submitted by folks who still are members and getting their permission. idk

I'm up for whatever format is chosen. In the past, I have tended to submit non-originals and non-final arrangements and productions, just to be on the safe side of things, but I don't really care about that anymore as the only money to be made in music these days (pre-Coronavirus) is in touring, not recording. I probably already have something ready-made for whatever the theme is, due to so many near-complete productions (I tend to work in parallel so that I maintain clear perspective on each piece).

Thanks for bringing this up, and for the hard work already put into the historical context, what issues would come up with a new compilation, royalties for covers, and all the logistics involved.

Would love to be involved and think it's an excellent idea to ask still current forum members whether they are happy for their songs to go online. I still have songs from the previous KC Comps pop up in my iTunes playlist regularly thu

Sure that would be great. My own stuff wouldn't be worthy, but would love to hear these curated lists. Maybe you could create a sticky thread, or another section. And how about getting the older volumes up online?

Sounds like we have enough interest. keynana

I'm thinking original material only, no theme (other than it should contain some keyboards).

End of April deadline for submissions. Let's limit it to 20 submissions per volume to keep it digestible, and keep the submissions to 5:00 or less.

I'll start a new thread for each comp. Will post something for the first one later today, including how to submit.

When I say 5:00, it doesn't have to be hard and fast. I'm mainly trying to avoid epics. If one or two pieces are a bit over, no worries.

I haven't been around in a while, and just saw this thread. I contributed on the Vol 1 and would be glad to offer up another original for this round.

I got one called "When the Earth Was Flat".

I never really knew why I wrote this song, but its beginning to make more sense lately. smirk

I'll post a link in the Let's Hear It Thread.

How about a long-distance collaboration experiment? KC members send each other (or post somewhere) song fragments, grooves ideas lyrics etc. and the rest of us can contribute, if so inclined. It would be particularly interesting to see what happens when people rooted in different styles interface.

Maybe? 🙃

I'm in. But some questions: does it need to be new? As in, composed specifically for this album? I've got a few jazz fusion tracks to choose from that I could submit.

I'm actually thinking there's no reason to start a new thread. This one should do fine. idk

If you want to submit a piece of music, send me a full res file via something like WeTransfer to dbryce@musicplayernetwork.com.

Please feel free to talk about your submission in the thread. Share whatever you want - talk about why the piece exists, what tools you used to make it, etc.

Great idea, brother Scott! I don't see any reason why a track for this project couldn't be created this way.

Thanks so much to everyone for all the enthusiastic responses! This should be a lot of fun...

Also, we'll need cover art for the project. If we have anyone here who does that sort of thing, please chime in.

Ideally, we'd get a couple submissions and the group would get to pick one.

Just a thought Dave, why not create a new thread and make it a sticky (short-term)? Might make it easier for users to interact with and you to have it set as submissions only...no chat

If we had no other stickies, I'd be more inclined to agree...but we have too many as it is in the main forum. The problem is that having a bunch of stickies (combined with the two sub-forums) drives an undesirable amount of the content "below the fold".

If we were to go that route, it might make more sense to put the sticky in the Shameless Plug sub-forum... idk

I'd be willing to make a not overly accurate non-cover song contribution for the coolness of being on a joint CD! Some mastering job thingies I could contribute, I don't think I should do any cover art ideas.

How about a separate one like Dr Mikes? Although I guess that amounts to pretty much the same thing??

But from what you say, yeah it might just get a bit convoluted....I imagine it'll be a pretty active thread anyway so it should always stay near the top - for those who don't subscribe to the thread. (idk, can we still subscribe to a thread? I haven't tried of late)

I'm in. I will send an edit of one of the tracks on my last CD; they're all epic-length, but someone challenged me to do a meaningful radio edit of the fave track from the album, and it came out not too sucky.

I am well aware of the fact that a lot of folks on this compilation will be better players than me, and some will be better composers, but I am not letting that stop me. And it shouldn't stop anyone else, especially folks who have never done anything like this before. There will always be people out there better and worse than you, and if you don't take that first step, you'll never take any of the ones that come after it. Courage!

A previous (non-KC) collaboration was housed on the Collaboration sub-forum wink

I would be happy to put in a submission for the cover art assuming it doesn't need to match previous volumes thu

Go for it! And, no, it does not have to match the previous art Janet did for us.

how "straight" does the art need to be?

Details for the front cover art?

Artist:
Keyboard Corner

Title:
Compilations 2020, Volume 1

If it had to have an actual name, I’d probably suggest something like:
We’re back!

MPN logo somewhere might be nice. idk

Will that work?

I have no idea what you mean by “straight”... confused

I’d go with this for a guideline: this is a publicly displayed forum, and the cover needs to not make anybody who submitted music feel badly that their work is on it.

Nothing stopping you from making multiple submissions, though. If we don’t dig something, we’ll vote that bad boy off the island. grin

I don't know if I'll be able to record a new tune for this comp - I would like to, but believe it or not, I'm busy as hell. But I should have something in the dark vaults that I could submit.
When's the deadline?

I'm ready to submit, but need to do the rough mix work (this won't be the version that goes on my album as a result, but it's close). I'm pretty confident now of which song from my upcoming jazz album is the one that is most appropriate to be included on the KC compilation, but I'm still a tiny bit torn as another one of the songs has the best piano solo of any of them. :-)

Not an easy choice, but now it's settled. I was going to use the one with stride rhythm and the call/response flute/trumpet lead, as the piano is more prominent and it's higher energy, but ultimately decided that the new age fusion piece with free-form/free-time soloing in the middle, has the prettier primary melody and the more interesting keyboard work (and solo). The Rhodes and Fazioli take turns throughout.

I guess it's best to go ahead and do a dirty mix to submit tomorrow morning. Alto Sax is still MIDI (as is Flute; though it's less noticeable there), but it's SWAM-based so is listenable and musical/expressive.

As an ode to Dave Brubeck's "Unsquare Dance", it is titled "Unsquare Time in Times Square". The almost-ran is called "Tobacco Road" due to the New Orleans Stride influence.

I'll try to make my track "Blues Command" the coming week, processing it through my not finished but usable studio tools. I suppose the required hand in format is 44.1/16 wav file, or would it be better to have 24 bits and possibly 96kHz studio quality to do additional processing/volume matching ?

"Worlds Apart" added by dB.

This is going to be much easier than the other ones. MPN now has a SoundCloud account, I've already uploaded the first five tracks at full res (hooray for SoundCloud) and created a playlist for the comp. I can add the tunes as they come in (latest submission is at the top), and we can watch it grow in real time. Kinda cool...

It's here: Quarantunes Volume 1

keynana rocker cheers

Dave,

So far everyone sounds amazing. Great stuff, guys!

I was wondering if you could insert a little background on my track over at SoundCloud. Basically I wanted to combine a bit of Hammond and Big Band as homage to Wild Bill Davis and Jimmy McGriff, with a bit of Freddy Green thrown in. Hammond = B3X on an iPad mini 5, bones. saxes, and guitar = Roland JV1010, and my buddy Don Williams helped me program my Beat Buddy for drums.

Can't wait to hear the rest of the submissions.

"When The World Was Flat" by Stevie b and "Archaic Faces" by David Holloway received and posted.

Some of these are showing up with a note saying the person sending it will understand if I don't think it's good enough to make it onto the compilation. Let me be perfectly clear about this: if you send me a tune that you think is good enough to post not only on this forum but on SoundCloud, I'm going to add it to the compilation.

It's neither my position nor my desire to judge the quality of other people's music. If you're proud of your work, that's good enough for me.

Requested changes made. thu

Man, this is easy!!!! When I was making these projects previously, it took forever - people needed to send me their files, and we had to wait until all the tracks were in to begin production. I then sequenced and mastered them, then did liner notes and co-ordinated art work, then had the CDs pressed, then actually physically mailed them out.

Suffice it to say I'm loving this current process to bits. w00t

I'll be working on one this week, or digging through my files. Have been doing online teaching and a virtual (for now) church gig, and am grateful for the $ - with stage gigs in the toilet, but really need to do something of my own to stay sane.

For a book I did years ago about mixing, I posted tracks that people could mix. The idea was to include a CD with the book that would show how mixes could differ radically from one person to another, even with the same material.

Now, some of the mixes are super-polished, and some were very simple and rough. But they were ALL good because they gave different perspectives.

Now you have me REALLY curious about what simian dabblings sound like!

It's funny how a definite target can cause re-evaluation. :-) I've been working full-time on this song for the past few days, stopping the voice in my head that says "good enough" when I know better. Laziness is something I only experience with computer-based production, but I can't call musicians to my house during the quarantine so I am stuck spending hours with fine-tuning of articulations and re-takes etc.

Likely completion date is now tomorrow. I've extended the piece and added more parts and have re-recorded everything from scratch except bass and drums. Final pre-mix step will be to record real clarinet with mics. The acoustic piano and Rhodes are now more prominent in this piece than before as well, but not just because of who's going to hear it first. I definitely feel inferior after hearing the submissions so far. :-)

I tell you now Mark, any recording going to the trouble of recording real clarinet is not going to be inferior by any measure thu

I may have to wait for Volume II. The iMac, which is my recording computer and has +/- $1000 of software on it and all the recording goodies, needs replacement, but we're not in a good place to buy another one right now. It's totally dead, but at least it's backed up. We have an HP laptop, but it's used for other things, isn't the most powerful, and I probably shouldn't clog it up, plus none of my recording equipment works with Windows (except for the Yamaha MG10XU mixer). I also have had very little luck with it and audio in the past, but I'm not a big Windows user. Kind of tempted to look at buying a replacement power supply board for our ancient Apple iBook G4 so I could get it running just for tracking. I could try recording to the iPad with the Yamaha mixer, but I use a good bit of plugins and automation and things of that sort to get a really nice result in recordings. Wouldn't be able to do that with the iPad. idk

Maybe I'll just focus on redoing the music room for now. Enjoying your submissions everyone!

Hah; just as I wrapped up my more ethereal piece with the wild free-form section in the middle and my best keyboard solo, I changed my mind again, so I will be submitting the generic riff-oriented fast-paced stride piece instead. It'll fit in better with the other material, and though it has no keyboard solo, the piano is more prominent than in the other piece. Mostly, it will be quicker to mix, as it only has (virtual MIDI-based) trumpet, flute, upright bass, piano, and drums. The other piece has fourteen instruments altogether! They take turns in call/response, but that sort of stuff is really hard to even do well-balanced quick mixes, and anyway I'm not quite well enough yet to play live wind instruments. Just thankful I'm still alive and didn't have to go for a ventilator. A few scary nights was all.

Cool!

If you want to submit a piece of music, send me a full res file via something like WeTransfer or DropBox to dbryce@musicplayernetwork.com.

Please feel free to talk about your submission in the thread, and/or send me notes to include with the tune when I post it on Sound Cloud. Share whatever you want - talk about why the piece exists, what tools you used to make it, etc.

I didn't see the definition of "full res" after reviewing the full thread once more. 16-bit/44k or 24-bit at 44.1k, 48k, 88.2k (unlikely) or 96k? Lightly mastered, fully mastered, or complete unmastered? I'm not sure if you're going to level them in some way. Otherwise I'll aim for -1.2 dBFS peak, which I understand is the newer standard, but still might be too hot for jazz.

I'll do a rough cut in the morning. After switching which song I'm going to contribute, I just spent the evening re-doing the main "flute" lead for better articulations, added a short fanfare, and called it a wrap.

16 or 24-bit - your choice. 44.1, please.

You can always compare it to the other tunes in the comp. My track is most definitely mastered.

"Thaw" by Samuel B. Lupowitz received and posted. That's fifteen tracks. I figure five or six more should do it for this volume.

I'm really going to enjoy listening to all of these. Scott, "Maddy Gray" wouldn't be out of place on a Tom Petty record; I detect a little bit of George Harrison in there too. Maybe once the submissions are capped for this installment, we can all discuss our tracks a bit?

Depending on your writing/tune digesting style, there's no reason you can't start now. idk

Some people might like to digest a few tune at a time and make multiple posts, others might prefer to take in the body of work as a whole and make a single longer post....

The great beauty of this format is that we can do it any way we want.

I just sent mine, down-sampled to 44.1 kHz and dithered to 16 bits. In my message I included the sound sources for the five instruments, as this may be of interest to other forum members if they like what they hear. Today was a reminder of why I hardly ever mix anymore, as it is so frustrating and time-consuming and fatiguing. At least when dealing with symphonic instruments and world instruments.

I agonized so much for years over this song, originally written (in a more elementary form) in 2005. No matter what I try to add to it, it seems like overkill, yet I felt compelled to try, as several people (all of whom despise jazz and find it unmelodic in general) kept asking me when I was going to add a melody atop the backing tracks. :-) So maybe someone will have a helpful suggestion, or all will like as-is. :-)

I've sent in my contribution yesterday, I was wondering if there's a 'CD quality" download from the soundcloud page. In case there is not, here's my CD Q file:

http://www.theover.org/Keybdmg/bluescommand44116mast.wav

It takes a few minutes to download the 4min39 47MB file from my server but it streams and works ok.

Some serious contributions I've heard up to early yesterday (dutch time)!

Hi Dave, just a clarification... so it has to be original tunes only? I thought so, then I saw "My Funny Valentine" in the list...
I have a rather nice version of "O Que Serà" by Chico Barque, recorded live a few years ago. If that's not possible, I will think of something else.

You are, of course, entirely correct. Pilot error on my part.

Brother Brad, we should actually pull your tune off this comp, and hold it for the "Quarantunes - Under The Covers" project.

Still not sure about the title "Quarantunes" it's a bit, well, naff - cutesy and topical but something, imho, akin to a "K-Tel Compilation television super sale album - (haha anyone remember those??) style name.
But that's just the view of a tiny fish in small pond haha!

Ok, I've sent my submission by Wetransfer. It's called "Dream Travel" (I know *I* am dreaming of traveling!)

It's a song which I realized for the Keyboard Performance classes at school, so it's not a very "personal" tune; it's in a generic, smooth jazz/pop style. And since the main purpose of the recording is student practice, the sound is a bit rough too. It would probably benefit from some extra treatment... if Dave can find the time... (I don't trust my system for mastering work)

It was conceived as one of those "Minus One" things... or better said, Minus Three. There are three keyboard parts. One is the solo synth, which includes an extended improvisation; the second keyboardist plays piano and Rhodes, and the third plays bass with the right hand and strings with the left hand.

Of course I submitted the complete tune for this comp - but for practicing purposes, I had to make *nine* different mixes of the damn thing! Without the solo part, without part2, without both, etc. freak Spoiled students... grin

Correction: that front cover design should have read "The Warhol/Poop Art Option". :-)

Also concept! But is it a problem that the roll is almost exhausted?

Oh, I like Brad's concepts as well. Maybe the toilet paper design could be the "back" cover? :-)

We're supposed to be creative types - surely we can do better than that...and we've got all this time on our hands.. idk

Next thing you'll be suggesting a white cover with black text and no graphics. KC White Album? roll

I quite like both David's and Brad's covers - both better than mine, IMO - but I think I prefer Brad's a bit more.

But I did offer a suggestion, yes? not : "I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm much more likely to consider a dissenting opinion if/when an alternate solution purported to be better is proposed." And just for the record I never said it purported to be better - it was just a suggestion as I thought the quarantunes was a bit naff (sorry,no offence meant) even if clever and topical. But hey, it's your dime, so do what you want. You can even remove my tune if you like, no skin off my nose!

Take a breath, brother. I’m just having fun here. This is not at all serious...no record deals rest on it or anything... smile

I was completely sincere when I said I thought you were kidding with the XIV thing. That’s why I said what i said...and frankly, I was looking forward to what I was hoping was going to be another cool idea, which was what I honestly anticipated you’d come back with. My error.

I also mean it when I say that names are important to me. It’s a part of the creative process, and the environment that led us back to doing this begs to have it’s story told, IMO. The album title is a good way to do that.

I am seriously amazed by the talent on this forum! And humbled as well. But more importantly, these tunes are fun to listen to and have soul, so it isn't a "chore" to go through them out of respect for our forum members. I think we've all gotten a lot better since the last compilation (not that those were bad by any means either!).

If I ever get around to writing something, I'll be happy just to make it onto "KC Kompilation: The B-Sides"

I think the neutral part of the quarantunes term is funny. Being at home shouldn't necessarily kill the thrill of making music, and an online effort has it's own charm. Maybe not compared to a real live situation, but nevertheless it's interesting to go over peoples music presentations, also with a less personally engaging technology.

In that context I'm glad Soundcloud seems to render my production at acceptable listening quality, but I repeat the suggestion about the download of the CD at CD quality, but maybe a AWS bucket or someone with a (temporally) high bandwidth flat rate internet connection to store the wav files on?

Sound Cloud lets me upload the files at full res, and they play them back at the same rate - that's why I use it. What you're hearing on playback should be exactly what you sent to me.

I'm a bit reluctant to allow other people's original work to be downloaded for free from a site with my name on it...and I'm not sure I see the need...? Sound Cloud has an app that will let tunes on it be played back from pretty much any device.

Nothing wrong with B-sides! Adam Ant saved his best/heaviest material for them, and prioritizes them at live shows. The original name of his first band was The B-Sides, before he got into Antmusic.

The covers compilation hasn't gotten started yet, from what I gather. Once it does, I'll contribute my Samba/Bossa arrangement of ELO's "Don't Bring Me Down".

I love the title Quarantunes. Witty, clear and to the point.

Of the proposed cover images, I prefer David Holloway's. It pretty much summarizes my situation... grin

A bit silly I know , but hey it might inspire some others to suggest a few - I like the cover too btw smile

I would just like to commend Theo on submitting a track that, knowing him only from his posts, seems completely on point. Maybe a little Tom Waits influence in there?

And Craig Anderton's track "Floating on Heaven" puts my humble attempt at cramming a bunch of styles into a single tune to shame! That one reminds me of Danny Elfman in the Oingo Boingo days.

Lots of great stuff here, really enjoying it. Looking forward to hearing more about everyone's submissions.

A cool side effect of having a Sound Cloud page:

MPN now follows a bunch of forum members on Sound Cloud, which means our stream is essentially a Spotify-type playback of all of our music posted there.

So if we have other stuff on Spotify, it links? Does it notice if we have session credits on someone else's album (I did a bunch of clarinet/bass clarinet/alto clarinet work last summer)? Mostly I'm curious because another friends is pushing me towards Bandcamp, and I am almost done with my jazz album so want to choose the best place to post it, caring about the ability to replace a file if mistakes are found, block direct downloads etc.

Based on the discussion so far about this compilation, it sounds like Soundcloud has already addressed the concerns I had a few years ago (when I almost released some stuff prematurely). Due to the quarantine for instance, I'll have to stick with MIDI placeholder tracks on some stuff that will get replaced by live musicians later. This is also why I switched my compilation submission to one that is already final in that regard.

I am also impressed by the audio quality of this compilation. I do not recall Soundcloud previously allowing for user-specified sound file resolution and/or avoiding weird and ugly compression algorithms outside the control of the music producer. I guess the world has changed a lot since I last compared all the posting services I was aware of a couple of years ago, before I got "side-tracked" (and paid :-)) working on other people's albums.

I believe it's a result of Following on Sound Cloud. There are some of the folks who contributed to the comp (myself included) that have other Sound Cloud accounts. That's what it's streaming...

Check it out cool

The reason I chose SC is specifically because they allow full res files - started a few years back. There are even 24 bit files in our comp - I posted what people sent me. I've had to do a bit of volume adjusting here and there, but nothing else.

To that end - a few of the files that were sent to me are mp3s. If the folks who sent those have access to the full res files, send 'em over and I'll swap them out.

It should also be noted that this is not a free Sound Cloud account - MPN is paying for us to be able to use the Nice Silverware. grin

So, we're at 20 tracks, and the album is exactly 1:25:00 in length at the moment. Anybody else planning to jump in? Otherwise, this one is feeling pretty done to me. I'm digging the flow a whole bunch...and the quality of work is simply off the hook, gentlemen. 2thu
Not bad considering we went from nothing a week ago to a pretty well fleshed out proiect that already has over 1200 combined plays. cheers w00t

Dave is there somewhere we can send few $'s to assist with this? After all it is you (and MPN) doing all the heaving lifting here!

I've started listening to this today and it is So Good. I'm dearly impressed by the talent and skill shown by the submitters (so far - I'm only up to track 8. Just kidding!)

My reviews of each song for what it's worth:

Waltz for Karen: Al Quinn - pure class, the passion shows, Really enjoyed this Al.

Some Other Time (feat. Polyhedra) - Brad Kaenel: I’d love to be at a gig where this is played. So positive and the production is superb!

Floating on Heaven - Craig Anderson - I really like this song, and the compliment I want to pay it is this: it would sit very nicely indeed on one of Mike Oldfield’s albums such as Five Miles Out of Heaven’s Open. Great stuff.

Worlds Apart (feat. BigTown) - David Bryce: Don’t know who this Bryce guy is but damn this is a great rock song, it’s the type I love playing in my band. This could also be a killer Eurovision entry.

Drunken Angel - David Emm: the second of the David entries shows huge flair. I’d argue it’s classic prog done with style, enjoyed this a lot.

Archaic Faces - David Holloway: am guessing this guy is a forum noob, can’t comment as electronica stuff like this doesn’t appeal wink

Clear Sky (feat. ROCKETSCIENCE) - drawback: I’m going to make the difficult call that this is my equal favourite song on this album. The production, the positive tone of the whole song, the EP solo, the interplay between keys and guitar. Love it!

La Belleza Que Se Va - Jazzooo: another one for my ongoing playlist. It’s smooth, it’s engaging and it’s a plain good song! It’s got class up the Jazzooo!

Virtual Blues - lightbg: I can listen to organ playing like this all day - thank you!

Dream Travel - marino: Beautiful song, great execution, enjoyed this so much marino.

Tobacco Road - Mark Schmieder: there are many compliments that can be paid to this song but I want to single out one: I listened to this before reading your description and assumed this was a live ensemble playing. Amazing stuff!

The Flowers - miden: Displays outright beauty, loved this, another one for the playlist.

December - Mike Boguski: Great playing, smokey sounding, made for the cinema!

Night Owl 1971 - Polychrest: Another excellent rocker! Again wish I was in a band playing this. Organ as crunchy as anything I’ve ever eaten!

Thin White Line (feat. Stickman) - Sam Mullins: a slow burner with a lot of style. Love how all the instruments sit so well in the mix and great vocals.

Thaw (feat. Noon Fifteen) - Samuel B. Lupowitz: what’s not to like about this one. Get Noon Fifteen down to Australia will you Samuel! Unsurprisingly great EP playing in the first half, then the rock out transition was such a cool surprise, great organ and synth work particularly at 4:20 or so! This is my other equal favourite on the whole album.

Maddy Gray - Scott Gould: Enjoyed this a very great deal. A story told well, nice organ playing and overall it has a real presence.

When The Earth Was Flat (feat. Focal Point Band) - Stevie b: Loved this one as well, another band I’d love to see! Loved the synth solo.

A Reasonably Difficult Ballad - thatdude: top notch song with lots to offer. I think you were concerned you shouldn’t submit this: there is zero reason why that was the case, this was excellent.

Blues Command - Theo Vereist: I think this is the perfect way to finish the album. It showcases the variety of the forum and like Samuel said it has a real Tom Waits vibe and that’s a great thing!

I am making slow but steady progress on my track. Volume one which has come together beautifully. Excited to hear it!

Wow... some extremely talented folks on this forum. Many thanks to all those that submitted; I've thoroughly enjoyed listening to every one of these songs. A quick thank you also to everyone that contributes on the forum. Especially in these crazy, turbulent times, the thoughtful commentary helps me more than you will ever know.

DB I would like to submit a tune I wrote. I am waiting on a sax player to blow and intro and lead on it! What time frame do I have? I can have it mastered or just mixed. You tell me which you like better.

For Volume 1? By the end of this weekend if possible, Jim...but we'll almost certainly start into Volume 2 pretty quickly, so no rush.

Volume 1 only took a week and change to assemble, including several art work submissions. Gotta love technogy. grin cool

Whatever works best for you, my brother. I'm flexible. We have both on Volume 1...works fine, so I'm not worried. puff

FWIW, since we began compiling this project live on Sound Cloud last Sunday, it's gotten just short of 1500 combined plays. Really nice to know people seem to be digging the track sharing party. smile

Hi Dave. I was planning to submit a tune, but I thought the deadline was the end of April so I have not rushed to prepare it. (I have been surprisingly busy with other things this far into the lockdown...)
I was planning to start work on it next week, but no worries if I am too late....

It was the end of April, Anne...but that estimate was based in how long it used to take me to put these together years ago. Turns out we can do it a whole lot faster! grin

Thios is no problem at all - as you can see from the earlier posts, there are several people already working on tunes for Volume II (I've already got a track ready myself), so I'd say keep on doing what you're doing.

As long as it's this easy and we're all stuck at home, if there's enough interest I'm more than happy to crank out a few of these. cool

I'll likely also be fading to Vol. 2. Or 3... or, uh...
